ride a scooter

I WILL learn to ride the little Aero scoot and start using it for my work commute. In this day and age I feel ridiculous driving 2 miles each way.

Okay, see if you can keep up. Several years ago, my honey purchased a dark red Honda Reflex. Rode it for several years, liked it but last year (in conjunction with the big 4-0) began obsessing on motorcycles. Eventually bought a Suzuki Volusia.

Then became obsessed with retro scoots and bought the aforementioned 50cc Aero, allegedly for “me”. Has ridden it to work frequently since. I still haven’t learned to ride any motorized 2-wheeler.

Then became obsessed with the Honda Helix, a popular 250cc retro scoot and shopped constantly for a used one. Gave up on that when she found a dark red Honda Reflex for about $1000 less than she had sold hers for, with less mileage on it.

So we currently own (in addition to our two cars) 1 motorcycle and 2 scooters. Although the motorcycle is now being purchased by my honey’s brother, but it remains in our possession til he can arrange to come collect it and ride it back to his home in New Mexico.

Meanwhile, I still need to learn to ride any of ‘em.

She is banned from buying any more vehicles for the forseeable future.

I’m secretly glad the Reflex has returned, I was very fond of the previous one and sad when she sold it. I had always meant to learn to ride it…
maybe now I will.

My girlfriend couldn’t resist a great deal on a mid-1980s vintage Honda Aero with only 750 miles on it, and bought it today! I haven’t even seen it yet since I got home well after dark, but I’ll have a look (and maybe a go at riding it) tomorrow…

I don’t really want to learn to ride a full-on motorcycle and I don’t particularly want to go on longer scooter trips or ride on the highway like my GF does (this scooter is big enough to do so), but she is starting to crave a motorcycle (MORE POWER!!) and I would like to be able to take this bike as a hand-me-down and ride it around town and to work, which would save on gas and be better for both my car and the environment. But first I have to learn how to ride….maybe a goal for 2006….
