Get People to participate in the 2006 Dewey Donation System Book Drive for Gulf Coast Libraries

Thanks to everyone who joined me in this goal—we really did some good! I still have the URL of the Book drive saved and will go back periodically and send another book or two. Hope others will too! Thanks again for joining me!

If you haven’t already, and even if you can’t afford to send anything at this time, it would be a great thing to let others know about this drive.

Hi!
I hope you will join me in spreading awareness of this great fund drive to replace the book collections of libraries destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and Rita flooding last year, and to help out the collections of other libraries in those areas that weren’t damaged themselves, but have no funding to add to their collections due to the overall devastation of the area. This is a poor area in the best of times and one of the only ways for kids growing up here to better themselves through education is via their local public library. I know for myself that as a kid whose parents couldn’t afford to buy me books, the library was an invaluable resource, and I want it to be the same for kids growing up in these areas.

It’s easy to participate: just go to http://www.deweydonationsystem.org, read up on it, click through the Amazon wish lists for the area libraries, pick out something and have it sent to them. I’ve already done it once and hope to again soon!

Cash donations are also accepted and there is an address for those as well. HOpe you can help out!

I have started my first team to raise awareness and get people to take part in a project to help replace and add to the collections of the libraries in the hardest hit areas of the Gulf region from last year.

Go to www.deweydonationsystem.org for more information on how you can help out. It’s a reputable group who has already raised funds for libraries in other areas, and you can actually buy books through Amazon wish lists and have them sent directly to a library that needs that book (or other item). Please consider helping out, and let me know if you want an invite to join my team!
