Not so much eating 2 years ago

I started keeping on top of my 8 glasses of water a day. I found out that one water bottle is two glasses, and one bottle fits perfectly into my kitchen glasses. So I only have to drink four of those suckers a day, which makes it way easier for some reason. I need to train myself to constantly drink it during the day, because what winds up happening is I’m on my third glass at dinner, finish it and pour myself the last one where it sits while I watch tv or surf the web until I realize it’s sitting there and down the whole thing right before bed. It needs to become natural, like how I naturally know when it’s mealtime again.

small steps 3 years ago

i stopped drinking carbonation. starting this past weekend, i gave all my soft drinks to my boyfriend and i am drinking water, milk and juices. its finals week here at school and i figured eliminating the carbonation might help with some of the stress i usually feel around this time.

it might help me with losing a few pounds too!

good stuff for a picky eater 3 years ago

im convinced im one of the worlds pickiest eaters. my list of donts is longer than my list of dos. when i order at restaurants its easier for me to say what i want on my sandwich than what i dont want. be that as it may, something tells me my taste buds wont be changing any time soon, and i just need to accomodate and find a way around the pickiness so that i can still follow a healthy diet. so far the things ive found that i love:

salads – a little meat, a little cheese, croutons and lite bleu cheese dressing… its not the healthiest option, but still much better than a big mac and fries.

apples – you name it, red delicious, grannies with peanut butter, juice, sauce, its all good. this is my greatest strength to stick to because its so versatile. three or four bites of sauce in the morning, a red on the go for an afternoon snack, juice when studying or watching tv or having dinner. ive been doing well with this the last week because i had a bag of fresh apples and took them to work to eat at my desk. just a matter of keeping them on hand.

v8 splash – not the tomato juice, but the fruit blends. mango peach and kiwi strawberry have lots of vitamins and antioxidants and other stuff thats good. also easy to have in the morning or evening instead of sodas.

watermelon and pineapple – in the right season theres nothing better. in the off season, at least theres pineapple juice and the canned stuff (in light or its own syrup)

orange juice – again easy and convenient, not to mention a lot of times you can find the stuff thats fortified with extra calcium and such to give that little extra boost.

i guess a lot of it is about convenience. apples are easy because i toss one in my bag on the way out the door. juice is easy because theres no preparation and it goes down quick and easy. grapes would be good too if i actually came home from the store, washed them and divided them into little bags to grab and go like the apples. vitamins are good i suppose but they dont fill you up to deter you from eating as much fat and grease.

my goal is some type of fruit at least once a day. even if my eating habits dont change otherwise, adding a piece/serving of fruit will do my body that much more good. once this is conquered i will move on to other goals that build on to this one. baby steps.
