I’ve started using sugarstats.com to monitor my blood sugar levels and ensure that I remember to have my injections when they are due. This will definitely keep me focussed and hopefully will result in an improved HbA1C next time.
Saw my endocrinologist today and the news wasn’t good. My HbA1c was up to 8.7 and my cholesterol levels were 5.7 so he’s changing me to a different long acting insulin (Lantus). Hopefully that, together with an improved lifestyle once I stop the long commute, will help.
Time to start taking heed of the warning and monitor my levels more closely as well as being more careful with my general health, exercise and diet.
My latest HbA1c result was 7.4, which my GP was happy with. That number is officially within the range described as “fair control”. Hopefully I can do more exercise during the next few months and that will help me achieve a lower result next time.
My blood sugar levels have been all over the place recently. Could be because I haven’t been that well. Anyway, I need to keep monitoring them and have another HbA1c test soon.
My excuse is that I’ve been on holidays and out of my normal routine. But after waking up with high BSLs several days running I’m keen to regain better control.
Since I was diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes 7 years ago it has been a case of learning to live with the disease and control it as best I can whilst recognising that I am human. It isn’t reasonable to expect myself to always eat low GI food when I should. It is human to occasionally go off the rails.
In general I am happy with the way I am controlling diabetes. However, I would love to have the opportunity to change my lifestyle so that I could spend less time commuting and more time exercising. Oh well, life isn’t perfect.
