and my pay checks every month will be going towards a couple of things that I need to replace, like my glasses that are on their last leg, and get some clothes for winter, since I’ve lost 40 lbs since last winter, nothing in my drawers fit. Other than that, the rest of my paychecks for the next 6 months or so, will go towards paying off our debt. Then in the spring, when we get our tax return back, that will go towards paying off the rest of our debt, and also, some of my paychecks will go towards getting a few things to do around the house, we are selling our house in the spring. Hopefully, then, after our divorce, because we are going through that right now, papers will be filed sometime in the next couple of months, we will be able to start our new lives pretty much in the clear. I’m looking forward to being debt free!:D hurray!

is actually a good thing when you still get along with your soon to be ex. we’re working on paying off our debt, the minute i get a job, in the next two weeks. then, after that, we’ll be set!
I recently read the book the last lecture, most of you have probably heard about the guy Randy Pausch, and his video to his children, but he’s got a ton of good points. I read something in there, and it makes sense. Anyways, onto another note, My husband and I have talked, and decided I was going to get a job. I luckily ran into the manager at a place I used to work at, and didn’t mind working at, only left for personal reasons, and she is going to hire me back. So I will be working part time from 4 to close, from wedn. to sunday. So that my husband can be at home with the girls more, and otherwise, if I worked and had to put the girls into daycare, it would be like me paying someone else to raise my kids. No thanks. So, I’m going back to work, after almost 5 years with only a little part working part time during those years, and am going to use my paychecks to pay off our credit cards and other bills. After that is done, I am going to use our extra money to put towards our equity bill, and then work towards putting money into savings. We’ll see how it goes. There. Lots in the works, but right now just working towards little things that we need, and mainly, paying off those credit cards, with double payments. TTYL! HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!
hmm….debt free. debt free…. what is this you speak of? lol! jk! Okay, let’s see if I can write this without being a book.
Anyways, We paid off most of our credit cards at the end of february. Within 4 months, they are now totally full again. I know, you don’t have to tell me. It totally sucks!
Anyways, has anybody else had to use their credit cards on gas this last few months? That’s where most of ours went up from. I don’t think mine has anything but gas, and a few grocery things on it. I don’t use my credit cards to buy clothing and misc. things usually, it’s just for the neccessities, because we’ve had to use all of our money for bills.
My husband bought a car, really cheap, but it’s a gas hog, 8miles to the gallon, thankfully not diesal! And he has a scooter that has a gallon tank, so gas here is 4.63a gallon right now, and he would get 71miles to the gallon on that thing, except that he can’t seem to get his butt up in the morning to ride it to work, becuase it takes an extra 10 minutes to get to work.
It would save us money on gas totally, but he just won’t get up on time! and i sleep through his alarm, because we are on different schedules. He also doesn’t get up and make his lunch, he’s weird about making his food for lunch, the night before, because he doesn’t like it sitting in a cold fridge that long, if it’s a sandwich. ugh! otherwise he was buying food at fast food restaurants, but now that there is no money to be frivously spent, he goes without, which in it’s own way urks me.
Anyways, Our house payment and equity loan aren’t a problem, but I don’t want to be stuck in this area for another 5 years, I’m ready to move on!
But, the way our loan is, we’ll be stuck here for another 5 years, before we’ll be able to sell our home, without having to give some of our profit to the loan company. Also, our equity loan cuts up more of our profit, so if we were to sell right now, we would end up still oweing money after the sale on this house still. So, I’ve put it in my husband’s head to refinance our really good home loan, and equity loan into one loan, that isn’t like our original home loan, so that we could sell, or even rent out our house, and move to where we really want to be.
My husband is tired of working his butt off and not have anything to show for it. He was paid take home 1350. We have 110 left for the next two weeks. And it all got spent on wednesday on bills. He’s tired of not being able to afford to go places and do things. So am i. But he’s not willing to look at other options to fix our problems. It just sucks. We’ll get there, I know, it just takes time!
You have to look at it with a smile, otherwise, you’ll just go down the road of despair.
I decided to look at our past 4 months of spending habits, via our online banking. I wrote down on a piece of paper, a graph of sorts. I put everything from our spending into 5 different spots. One for groceries, another for Gas, another for Bills, and another for misc. spending. The last was deposits. This was from Jan. 25th through May 30th. In 4 months time, including tax returns and stimulus payments, we have had over 20k deposits into our account. Our spending habits, added up to almost 20k. I think it was in between 80 dollars difference. That of course includes payments to the credit cards, but not what we owe to the credit cards. In 4 months time since we paid them off in February, we have another 5k on the credit cards. So much for not using them this year, and finally getting out of debt, ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I keep saying I’m determined not to get into debt again after we pay them off, but then it comes down to needing groceries, or gas. Or fixing our car. That’s where a thousand on one of the cards came from, was just from fixing our car. There is still the problem of when it comes down to it, paying for our front brakes to be replaced on the car. That’s going to be needed soon.
At the moment, we are almost to the point of having no room on the credit cards again. So, in the budget of life, we are 5000 dollars over our budget. I’m not a happy camper, but if I keep thinking about it, I’m going to get depressed about it. It’s the last thing I like to talk about with my husband, because of his anxiety issues, that he doesn’t deal with by the way, until I get to the point of freaking out on him. It’s then that he is the calm one, and relaxes me. And we deal with it however we can.
I know what we need to do, to try to fix the issue. We routinely pay too much in taxes every year. This year is going to be different, because my husband has lost most of his over time. He’s just now finally getting some of it back. So, he won’t have as big of a tax return this next year.
Also, routinely, the tax return goes to paying off those stupid credit cards. I’m irritated, because my husband doesn’t see that, and I seriously just need to stop complaining about it on here, and sit down and have a serious talk about our spending habits with him, and try my damndest to get my point across, and not make him depressed. ugh! life sucks when you don’t use credit cards like you should. I would like to have one credit card, and use it for emergencies only. Yeah, like that will ever happen! ugh!
sorry, just had to vent to someone else. have a great day everyone! I’m going to get us out of debt if it’s the last freakin thing I do!!!!!!!!!!! and sooner rather than later, damn it!:D
for 3k. The loan, which is what he had to do, worked out to 100 dollars or so a month. I can handle that. So, now we’re not going to go terribly into debt again. We have a 3000 dollar loan, but it’s doable, instead of 3 different credit cards going. There is still some stuff on the cards, that was put on them lately, but hopefully my husband will get overtime back soon, and we won’t have to worry anymore. That’s what I’m hoping for. I’m hoping to stay out of debt for the entire rest of the year. It’s possible, but scary at the same time. It all depends on him getting that overtime back. I really hope he gets it back soon, so we can get into better shape financially.
The original plan was to just use our taxes to pay for a truck, the payments I mean. And use a little for a down payment, that way we didn’t have to worry about defaulting on a truck. But I was worried about our interest rate, and how much we could actually qualify to finance, so I decided, and told my husband we would be doing it this way instead, pay off the credit cards, and then in a couple of months, we’d put money aside, and use that for payments, and have a great interest rate, because our credit would be kicking butt by then.
Well, we paid off most of our debt, should make us happy right? kind of. We paid off four of our credit cards. Immediatly, i kid you not, my husband decided that instead of calling me to find out how our checking account was doing, he decided to put 125 dollars right back on his card. Sure it was for food for my birthday party, but that still didn’t make me happy one bit.
I put 65 on one card, which is only done every 3 months, and this was going to be the last one anyways, and 12.99 on another, which is monthly, and i need to stop that one anyways, because of two things that are set up for those cards for automatic payment.
I told him when we were going to pay off the cards that we needed to call each other when we went to the store to find out how our account was, so that we knew what we could buy, so we didn’t put stuff right back on the card.
I’m trying really hard not to get right back into debt. I would like to start out next year, with either no debt, or almost no debt. I really want to start next year with no debt.
My main goal is to get rid of the rest of the cards, add my husband to my 2k card, that way if we do use a card, we can’t get ourselves into a huge amount of trouble like we have the last 3 years. well, not really trouble, but a lot of debt. Even when it’s completely full, it’s still only 100 dollars a month payment, that’s the most if costs, with interest. I can handle 100 dollars a month. It’s when we’re paying over 500 a month in credit cards and other etc debt, that I have a problem with.
We end up using our tax return for paying off credit cards, instead of using it for other things we want. Like redoing our yard, that’s most likely going to be put off another freakin year, or get my husband a truck that he wants. Or any other number of things that keep getting put off, because we end up having to pay off credit cards instead.
I had to use 7000 for paying off our cards, and I didn’t even get to pay off the entire debt. I did pay off our medical bill to our family doctor. I paid it up to date, so there’s only 2 things on it now. It should only add up to maybe 100 dollars left to pay off their bill.
The bills I didn’t get to pay off like I had hoped, was our gas bill for heating, which is above 300 dollars right now, because they waited a month to fill our tank, so it ended up putting an extra 200 dollars on it in one shot, pissed me off a bit. Then we have our hospital bill, from lab work done on my daughter and I. And last but not least, was our last credit card to pay off, was the sears card. There’s still around 200 dollars left on that bill. The hospital bill is around 160. I was going to pay off all of those, which actually works out to less than I thought, I thought it was closer to 700 or 800, but it looks like closer to 500.
There could possibly be a little more, maybe I was adding in the money we put on cards, him with the groceries, same old stupid habit of his, and my two bills that are automatic payment. So, all in all, I feel like we’re getting ourselves right back into debt like last time.
Oh, I didn't say why I was so ticked off today, about our debt...lol, you guys are wondering why I'm even writing, lol! My main concern is, I decided to hold 1100 dollars, to get our car maintanance done, a tune up. Fix whatever needs to be fixed before it gets to the point of a huge bill. Well, today my husband dropped it off to get it checked out, so we could get quoted a number to pay for it. It worked out to, the tune up wasn't bad, 160, including tax and labor. But then we are getting close to needing the timing belt changed, within 10000 miles, along with the front brakes need replacing in 10000 miles, and also, when you replace the timing belt, you better replace all the belts, and etc, because once you start replacing things, other things start to go, and also, since they’re down there, they will replace our water pump?
All in all, the damage is adding up, and it’s going to be close to 1k. I’m not happy about it, but would rather get all of this maintanance done now, instead of letting it go, and end up paying more in the end, when something breaks. It’s an older vehicle, 1996, and has 193k miles on it. I want it to go for at least another 100k miles. My husband brought up the point of, when are we going to see this kind of money again, the money was set aside for this particular thing, instead of getting to pay off the other bills, so, we’re going to go ahead and get the whole car overhauled in a way, so that we don’t have to necessarily worry about the car for awhile after this. It just sucks.
I was hoping for only having to use maybe half of the taxes left that we set aside for this, so that we could pay off the rest of our debt. We still want to buy my husband a truck this year, but right now, there is no way we'll be able to do it, until around xmas, or even next tax time. ugh!I had hoped that when we paid off the cards, that we would be able to put some money aside right away, for a truck, but it’s not working out. We also have to put money aside for a couple of trips we are required to take for a club my husband belongs to. And then there’s paying for a babysitter for at least one or two of the 3 major trips we are taking.
And I’m just totally worried about finances, cause we also have to buy xmas gifts all year long this year, cause my husband doesn’t get to cash out his vacation time anymore. And he lost all of his over time, so we’re living on 1139 a payday, and we have the house and the equity bill, along with the phone bills, and power, and etc. UGH!!!!!!!see why I’m freaking out! haha! I’m okay, just really, venting about it though.
Thanks all for listening. I know I wrote a book, but I had to vent about this subject. Just when I think we’re going to do great this year, it really looks like we’ll be back into debt by june. I don’t like the prospect.
If my husband is able to get his overtime back by then, then I really won’t worry, because he’ll be bringing home almost 700 more dollars a pay day, and we’ll be able to catch back up, and, on top of that, put money aside for all the trips and a truck. I’m really hoping he gets his overtime back by the end of the month.
I’m really hoping, cross your fingers, k! love to all, and good luck!
Oh, and I forgot, while the car is in the shop, we’ll also have to pay for a rental car for a couple of days, since it’s the only car we have. Just keeps adding up! ugh!
I don’t think this is going to happen this year. We got our taxes done today, and although we have the money to pay off our credit cards, and still have money left over, we also need a car for my husband. We’ve been down to one car going on 5 months now. It’s hard. I want to put most of the refund away for a truck for my husband, but then what to do with the rest? We also want to fix up our yard this year. I don’t know what to do. ugh! I know the right thing would be to pay off the credit cards. We have the money, but then, if we want to get a truck that isn’t a junker, cause that’s what he’s been forced to have the last 2 cars he’s had, I want to get him something that’s used, but not too used, that will last him a few years, preferabbly something he actually wants, instead of what we can afford. I want to pay off some of the credit cards so that we can go get a personal loan or a car loan from a credit union we belong to, and then have the money in savings, which is what we have in that bank, and make payments from that, that way we don’t have to worry about trying to come up with a car payment at that time. ugh! I don’t know what to do. oh well, we’ll figure it out. What I mean, is we don’t have enough money to do both. We either have enough money to put away for payments on a loan for a truck, or we have enough money to pay off the credit cards, and then have some left over. He’s so looking forward to getting a truck, and seriously, so am I, since I will finally have use of my car again. But I was really hoping to be able to pay off the credit cards this year, and I don’t think it’s going to happen now. I don’t know. It’s not as bad as I’m making it sound, but it is in a way too. Good luck to all!
Hi, I haven’t written in awhile, and I realize I have made some improvements. I owe a ton of money right now on my credit cards. But the tire company did take credit cards, and I have already made a 50 dollar payment onto that card already. I look at it as, a good thing, that I’ve actually already made a payment, when I couldn’t even keep that up with the actual company before. I have been keeping up with payments on almost every bill. I work on the bills twice a month. On each payday. We were actually able to put over 500 dollars from my husbands last payday towards christmas. He will be off for 3 weeks, so I want to make sure we have enough money for presents and to make up for no overtime for those few weeks. Well, that’s it for now, have a good day everyone and good luck!
I realized that if I had paid my bills on time last month, that I would have saved myself this payday, almost 300 dollars in double bills and late payment fees. ugh! live and learn. I have been trying to put money into savings, just have to stop us from thinking that when we have no money, to still keep buying and put it on the card. that’s the real problem. I have implemented my plan though to start working towards paying off my credit cards. I have already crossed off a few of the amounts on there. I got all of our bills, including credit cards caught up on due dates. I paid off, albeit, on the credit card, my daughters book orders, they will finally start arriving again. I just need to do it again next payday, if i get a bill before then. It’s 3 less bills, added to the other one, but I made a good payment on that one too. I would rather use the excess money we have to pay more towards other bills. There is one that has to do with my tires that we had to buy for my car, over 2 years ago now, that my husband must have thought was already paid off. They are getting mad now, because we haven’t sent payment. I need to call and see if they accept credit cards. Then I will just pay that off, and it will be one less bill. I know, it’s not a good way to pay off debt, but honestly it is better than not paying the bill. Then We’ll only have to deal with credit card debt and medical bills. I have one bill that is a magazine subscription, and i think 2 other bills, that really don’t need to be renewed. Then, then! haha. I am getting there. It doesn’t seem like it on here, but i am. I am working it out to only be 2 credit cards bills due each month, and being really good about keeping all the other cards paid off and not in use. I looked at the regular bills due for next payday, which is a week before the end of the month, but not due till the first of the month, and it will only be a thousand out of the paycheck. which should leave around 600 dollars to put towards savings, food, gas and misc. I am trying to stick to 300 of that going to savings. But I think we’ll be using a hundred to pay towards that tire bill. I don’t know. Good luck everyone!
