The Deutschland Nationalmannschaft are the only ones to blame. Watching for the first time the WM at 2006, and liking what I see has led me into digging up stuff on the internet about them like crazy. Soon enough I found a quite large LiveJournal community of enthusiastic fangirls. Most of them were obviously German, and frequently encountering German texts was inevitable. Simultaneously I started to listen to German music (Rammstein are my favourite!!). So I decided I gotta understand what they’re all talking about – found self-tutoring websites, bought a book, downloaded a software… yada yada the usual. By far I’m kinda getting the sentence structures and the cases down. But vocabulary-wise, there’s still a lot of work. Plus translating the words into my own language in my head before I fully comprehend it is something I’d gladly get rid of.
All in all, I like this language. It’s sophisticated. What makes it easier to “digest” it is relying on the languages I already know. It has some similarities here and there with Russian, English and even Hebrew. I think I might even take it as a course at uni.
Well good luck, everyone!!!
