“Get up by 8:45 AM for 15 days in November” has been changed to “Get up by 8:45 AM for 15 days this month”
I failed miserably and coming back from Thanksgiving makes it especially hard. I also have a hard time adjusting after long weekends. I’m usually really depressed.
Anyway, I think I managed 3 days in November so i’m shooting for the same goal this month.

but i still got in on time. i’ve been crawling out of bed around 9-9:15. i need to get up earlier to use my lightbox and give myself more leeway to get in on time. i’ve gotten in on time by a hair.

This would seem to be just enough time as i got in 1 minute late today. If i had made my sandwich the night before and didn’t have to do an expected task that i was texted about at the last minute then i probably would have been early. but then again, when i got to the subway, the train arrived just as i got to the platform when i often can wait between 5-10 minutes for it.
had it not been for the train arriving right on time, i would have been late so i guess really 8:45 is optimal especially if i want to start to use the lightbox. that’s 20 minutes of not being able to do much except sit in front of the computer. i suppose actually i need to get up a little before 8:45. i hope no one is reading this entry, it is so stupid and boring, i’m just thinking out loud and trying to work an important but mundane aspect of my life. this seems to be something most people can do without a second thought but for me it’s extremely difficult and while most probably cannot relate to this particular change i’m trying to make, they can probably relate to the difficulty in changing any lifelong habit.

I would have thought that that would have been enough time but i had to run to the bakery – still i did leave after 10. i also had to have the dry cleaning drop off my clothes so i couldn’t prepare that the day before.
What i did find made a difference was making these evening and morning checklists.
For the evening i would include things like put keys and metrocard in bag, set aside clothes for tomorrow and other brain dead activities and the morning is a simple checklist of things i have to do like feed the cat, and things i have to bring. My mind is a complete mess in the morning. I must waste a good 10-15 just finding things and trying to put together an outfit.
The list needs a bit of tweaking but it’s great not having to have to think about these mundane tasks at a time where my mind is the least capable of it. Better luck tomorrow getting up.

o boy. this isn’t going too well. Today i was 9 minutes but who greeted at the elevator doors but my manager who always seems to be lurking around the corner. My getting to work on time goal is dependant on this goal so I’ve got to make this a priority or I’ll be fired. Tomorrow I’m getting up by 8:45 as if my life depended on it. I can do it for one day but I can’t seem to make it a habit. I suppose this depends on getting to bed somewhat but not entirely. Maybe if I can sustain the “as if my life depended on it” feeling for 3 days I can make it but it seems so impossible.
Today in particular I felt so doggone tired even throughout the day. If i have to be here for a particular reason like if clients are coming, there’s no way i’m late but i can’t seem to get that sense of urgency in me everyday even though I’ll probably lose my job for constant tardiness. I’m going to do some googling and come up with a good list of things I can practice to establish the morning habit.

I didn’t get to sleep until around 4-5 though. I was hoping to either start getting up early or going to sleep early and that consistently doing one or other would naturally put the other in balance. Though even when i force myself to get up or even stay up all night, the next night i still stay up late and then i’m REALLY messed up for the next day. maybe if i’m able to get up early for more than 1 day in a row it might work a little better.

got up at 9:40 – i’m adding a new goal to get to bed earlier because staying up until 3 is not conducive to getting up on time.

had a delivery at 7:15 in the morning. answered the door in zombie mode. went back to sleep. why is it when you hit the snooze button the sleep you experience is the most heavenly sleep you’ll ever experience and waking up all the more undoable. well i snoozed for over an hour but managed to get myself out of bed.
