start a band

It makes me happy to see that several people have reached this goal. GO, PEOPLE!! :D

As for me, I am still kind of sad about not having found some band mates yet. It always seems to break apart just because of stupid reasons. One reason is that I don’t know where to get a good rehearsal room, another is that I don’t have enough equipment for playing with others. I do have a guitar amp, for example, but it isn’t THAT loud. If you placed a drumset next to it, you wouldn’t be able to hear anything anymore.

I feel like I have made so many mistakes in this field. All I want to do is play in a band with other people.

No matter when I get money again, I will spend it on something musical that I need. A microphone, a guitar amp, or the repair of my guitar, since there is something that isn’t alright with it …

I will follow the advice and try to find some people through asking. If only I knew who to ask :( ...

I am facing a huge problem. I met up with the two guys who answered my ad and, honestly said, after thinking it through several times, I cannot imagine playing in a band with them. I just cannot take them seriously …

They want to play a totally different music style than I do, which is really annoying me, since I really don’t want to be pushed into a certain direction I just feel I don’t belong to. The conversation was rather stupid; I tried to keep it up, but they simply started talking with each other than with me. I just felt like a complete idiot because of this reason. And they maybe do drugs … At least the way they talked about that was … I don’t know. Obvious.

And I don’t want any people in my band that put drugs first and music second or even last. I want some people who are dedicated; I don’t really care about band experience and so on, but I now am scared that nobody will reply to my new ads … :( Okay, one should try, but … I just don’t know how to catch anyone’s attention. And I don’t know how to tell the guys I talked about above that I don’t want to play in a band with them.

It just doesn’t feel “right”, you know …

I got a reply to my ad!! :] There are two people who might join me, so I asked them a few questions and said I would love to meet them :D … I hope everything goes well … One of them plays the bass guitar, and the other is a keyboardist. (does the happy dance)

I just published an ad reading that I am looking for people playing the following instruments :

- Vocals (okay, you cannot really play the vocals, but I hope you get why I count it as an instrument)
- Lead Guitar
- Bass Guitar
(- Keys (eventually))
- Drums

I myself am going to play the rhythm guitar :D. HEARTS!

Genre? Something experimental, yet it should be something like gothic, deathrock, etc. I also like visual kei a lot, but I just don’t look like it :(. I should also start looking for a rehearsal room now, which will be a tough task to do.

However – If you are from Germany (Aachen or a town near Aachen), and think this sounds like I mean YOU, then you can comment here and we can arrange something :).

I haven’t heard anything from the person who wanted to start this band. :( Maybe I am not ready for something now; I don’t know. However, I have got another idea, which I am going to tell you about now.

I want to start my own solo project. Maybe this will help me get a little more confident, and I won’t feel like being pushed into a corner. I could work with whoever I want, which would be great … There are already various people on my mind :D.

I would find out which genre suits me best, too. Doing experiments is what I love to do, so what am I waiting for??

Now it comes. I don’t know how to get started with some genres. I want to try both electronic and “organic” (?) music. Like, music made using the computer, AND music made using my hands (okay, I know I have got to use my hands in both cases, but I hope you get what I mean …). I also don’t know what I will need and so on. If there was a certain goal fitting this plan I would just ask a question there, but since I don’t know about such a goal, it is put in here :( ...

I am thinking about buying a certain midi keyboard. It comes along with software and everything you need as a basis. Plus, it is not very expensive :D. I hope I will be able to handle it. I guess I will need a microphone, and maybe some software to mix everything together??

Are there any sites on the www which show what you need and how to handle this equipment correctly?? I’d be so happy if someone replied and told me about this …

This doesn’t mean I will give up this dream, though!

I will maybe join a band soon. Yesterday, I talked with the one who wanted to start a band at our school, and since I often get the feeling having band experience would help me start my own one, I really hope I will be able to play in this band (I said I wanted to play the rhythm guitar since I am not that good at playing lead guitar).

Now there are several problems occuring :

1) We are not complete … Yet. I guess this is the smallest part of it, we’ll be complete very soon!!

2) We don’t have a room to do rehearsals. There are two that people offered us but … It’s hard to always bring the whole equipment whenever we want to play together :(.

3) Not everyone in the group has equipment to play.

I won’t let these things destroy my dream! I will do my best concerning reaching this goal, no matter what!! And I will start searching for another rehearsal room that doesn’t cost that much … Or probably nothing at all. Any ideas?

The project itself sounds interesting (so does also the FAWM – February Album Writing Month). Anyways, I want to play in a band first :( ... I must sound really desperate, but I don’t know what to do first …

Should I prepare some songs first and present them to potential band members? Is it better to talk to them first in e. g. a café or should I … well … I haven’t got a rehearsal room :(.
It’s not like I never searched for band members, but I mostly got the answer that they didn’t want to join me … For whatever reason Oô.

So … Imagine YOU were the person who would like to play in a band. What should I do? What would you pay attention to??

sometimes, and this might sound a little strange, it helps when you talk to complete strangers about things that you want to do with your life, and about things that are important to you …

i got to know somebody on msn several weeks ago. i didn’t know who he was, neither did he know who i was, so the entire situation was rather funny :). when he said that he plays a certain instrument (i don’t remember what it was exactly, though :\), i told him about my wish to get better at playing the electric guitar, and he said “well, there’s no better way to get better at that than playing in a band.”

however, i told him that i thought i wasn’t good enough, so he asked me whether i ever considered playing the rhythm guitar, since this was way easier :). and i really thought about it, and i think this would be the best idea.

so i now want to search for an existing band or start my own one and play the rhythm guitar there. actually, if you do this really well, it sounds good in the end … and i want to sing :D. aaand i will place an ad in the newspaper about that or use the notice-board of a certain café in aachen. :sigh:

but i have got a good feeling for this year. i will probably also ask our teachers whether they could form a choir or something. or if something like this already exists …

i am really looking forward to this. it’s like a dream will come true, a dream i have had for such a long time now … and will never lose.
