see my brother at least twice a year

Sure enough they wanted him at a big event out my way again so afterwards we met up and went camping. He actually had a family member traveling with him this time so we didn’t have a lot of time together but we did have some. We walked around and sat by the creek – he lit up a pipe and we sat there laughing about things…mostly weird people we know and the funny things they say, and what we’d say back if we had the nerve. LOL. Actually he’s got more nerve than I do so I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up saying some of that stuff one of these days.

But the best part is…he’s talking about moving out here! That’s a huge park where we camped and they’re always hiring people for maintenance and special programs…well he does carpentry, construction, repairs, and a lot of hosting and guide work for the same kinds of programs they offer there. He put in an application and they said to be sure and call ahead when he comes back in January so they can set up interviews for him and get things moving. That park is both of our favorite place on earth and he deserves to get exactly what he wants for once in his life rather than having to settle, and it’d be a lot easier to see him if he were 150 miles away rather than all the way down south like this.

He’s only been gone 3 days but it seems like an eternity since he went home. He said business may be bringing him back out my way in October…I’d say if he doesn’t have his trip booked by July I need to start organizing to go visit him instead.

He’s not my brother by birth but he is my brother in spirit; he lives far away and it’s been hard for either of us to get the money together to see each other so we rarely do.

This week has been bittersweet; in some ways life has been even harder on him than it has on me, but it shows on both of us; we both get scared sometimes when someone gets close…we forget that it’s okay to be loved, especially by someone who calls you “brother.”

At this point we’re both starting to make better money; he got a really good solid trucking job and I’ve got my hodgepodge of stuff I do so I’m thinking I can go see him later this year…we’re good teachers for each other and I don’t think we should spend this much time apart again if we can help it.
