my best friend once told me, “just be happy.”
and it is that simple. once i started making a conscious effort, i began to realize how often i’d worked myself into a bad mood before i’d even gotten out of bed!
it’s not like my problems have miraculously vanished, but i know that i have the ability to handle anything. and right now, i’m smiling.

i’ve made a habit of focusing on what i have each day, rather than what i don’t. i also load my iPod with music with positive messages and driving beatsthe endorphins just rush! taking a walk every day helps too. invariably i run into a dog, baby or hummingbirdinstant grins.
i’m smiling right now.
yay!

people here in the Bay Area don’t say that, but folks in NYC do. it drives me crazy, because more often than not, i’m not angry or upset—just thinking. this makes me look like i’m frowning. it also makes me look unapproachable.
so i’m going to smile more often. not a crazy, wildeyed kind of smile, but a i-just-had-chocolate-ice-cream-and-sex kind of smile. see? just writing that made me smile.
