learn to play the harmonica

I’m going for a Paul Butterfield distorted harmonica sound, so I’ve been looking for the perfect mic/amp to make it happen. Here’s what I’ve found so far:

Hohner Blues Blaster 1490 ($70)

Every resource points to this microphone as the gold standard for the Chicago-blues distorted sound.

Pignose Hog 20 Rechargeable Amplifier ($110)

It may not be the priciest amp out there, but I once saw a professional player play a performance hall with one of these. The best part is you can charge it up and play for up to 8 hours with no AC power – perfect for busking!

I’ve been playing piano/organ/keyboards/bass and other impossibly heavy instruments for almost 20 years. I have always been enamored with the idea of being able to pull an instrument out of my pocket and play anytime, anywhere.
