I still haven’t signed up for my next French course because it’s in direct conflict with my goal of getting out of debt: ie, I don’t have the money for the tuition in my bank account. The class that I’m in right now is getting to be less painful and more enjoyable. I have some grammatical concepts that I’m having difficulty with, on my cubicle wall at work so that when I’m waiting for my ever slow computer to load I read over the list. It seems to be helping a little.

I was going to drop my French course because I feel like I’m over my head, but I can’t because the drop deadline was last week (the class that I missed) so now I have to buckle down and do some reading. I’m starting to feel out of my depth. Like all of those lorels that I was resting on from French immersion elementary school are slowly disolving around me and now I actually have to try to learn something. Grammar. Oh it’s so difficult when you don’t study. Tabernacle!
I’m looking into a Russian class downtown. I’m not sure whether to take absolute beginners (I studied the basics in an intensive class in Russia 5 years ago) or go with the intermediate. I’m thinking of absolute beginners because the class that I was stuck in before was pure immersion upper beginner and I was lost for most of it.
French is getting a little better. I’m going to study some more tonight. Maybe I’ll start Spanish in the fall, if I have enough time and money.
So, I’m in a French conversation class and I realized how much my speaking sucks. My listening and reading comprehension is fine, but when I go to speak, all the French words I have jumbled up in my head will not come out or come out very very slowly. It’s like verbal constipation. Now I know how my ESL students felt. Poor kids!
Has anyone ever used Rossetta Stone? If so, could someone please let me know if they are worth the money, because seriously thinking of saving up for one of their programs.
French
Russian
Spanish
Mandarin
Arabic
But if I already speak English, would that count as six? Maybe I mean five “foreign” languages.
I’m taking French classes right now but just general interest. I bought learn French CDs and have downloaded one on my iPod to listen to on my way to work (the repeating part is kind of funny when other people are around; crazy lady babbling to herself in French). Also reading “Les Trois Roses Jaune” which is a series of short stories.
Russian isn’t coming along as easily. Have the CDs but don’t listen to them as often as I should.
As for the others, well I would like to get a good start on the first two before I concentrate on the other three. I don’t even know where to start with Arabic.
