Aibohphobia 1 week ago

“Today, I realized that Aibohphobia means fear of words that are the same spelled backwards such as race car, but the word Aibohphobia is the same spelled backwards. MLIA

Grizzly! 3 weeks ago

Grizzly bears weigh 1440lbs. and can be 13ft. tall, but they prefer to eat vegetables instead of meat. What’s their main protein source?? They eat up to 40,000 MOTHS everyday!

I had no idea grizzly bears like to eat moths.

Penguin Pullovers 2 months ago

Scientists occasionally put sweaters on penguins to protect their feathers in oil spills. If a penguin gets oil on its body, it can’t stay warm and it can get sick from swallowing the nasty stuff while preening its feathers.

Lesson Learned 5 months ago

Never take antibiotics on an empty stomach or after just eating something like a banana. One piece of fruit is not a meal. If you’re on antibiotics, eat a huge plate of food before each dose!

I finally completed taking all of my medicine tonight. I’ve felt sicker this past week than I ever have in my entire life, mostly due to the lessons I told you about above. Trust me, throwing up antibiotics (because you took them on an empty stomach) is not fun.

River Civilizations 8 months ago

I’m sure I learned this a long time ago, but I forgot about it until I had to teach my students a history article today.

The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers are located in Iraq, where the ancient Mesopotamia civilization(s) and the legendary city of Babylon existed.

Also, the Indus River is located mostly in modern-day Pakistan. Old records state that it flows through India (so that makes us think of the country), but that’s due to past explorers calling that entire region “India.”

Other powerful civilizations were centered around or near the Nile River in Egypt and the Yellow River in China.

Galaxies 8 months ago

I learned that there’s another galaxy called “Andromeda” that’s expected to collide with the Milky Way in two or three billion years.

Amazon 11 months ago

~ The Amazon River has 2000 kinds of water creatures- more than the Atlantic Ocean!

~ One-fourth of all medicine is made from rainforest plants.

~ The Andes Mountains take up almost the entire western coast of South America (passing through seven countries), making them the longest chain of mountains in the world. The Amazon River flows from these mountains to the Atlantic.

~ There are 750 kinds of trees and over 1500 kinds of plants in the Amazon Rainforest.

Christmas Cats 11 months ago

I’ve learned not to leave tinsel and fake snow out where my cat can get it while I’m at work. That stuff is really bad for kitties and I’ve been worrying about her all day! (I’m going to throw it out when I get home.) They can choke on it. :(

Hopefully, she’ll be alright when I get home.

I know... 14 months ago

this is lame, but I learned that polar bears can turn green if there is too much algae in their swimming pool. :]

Consistency 14 months ago

I’ve learned that when I travel, I need to sit down that night and write everything about the day or it will NOT get done! I feel so frustrated that I went on an amazing, month-long trip, wrote 19 pages about the first four days, and then gave up. Sure, I could still finish it, but the details are not nearly as fresh in my mind anymore. I will at least do an outline to help me remember each day from now on.

After all, if you’re going to be a writer, you kind of have to WRITE, even when you don’t always feel like it. I am determined to write something everyday from now on, even if it’s just a sentence. The memories I make while living abroad (or even just at home) are far too precious to forget.
