1. my stats only date back to september or october 2007 (bootstrapping) and october 22, 2007 (account creation) because of iTunes data loss.
2. Relient K was my favorite band in, like, 2003, but not since. I went through a second phase with them at about the same time as my account creation, and since then they have perniciously remained in my top 10.
3. I have only one, average-length album by many of my favorite artists. Fortunately, several of them have still made it into my top 50 anyway, but I imagine that might become increasingly harder over time?
4. a) My top 50 is a mixture of favorites i’m truly familiar with, and artists i’m simply getting to know, went through a short phase with, or have extra long albums by.
b) When i’m simply getting to know an artist but they’re already in my top 50 even though i’m not actually familiar with any/many of their songs, i’m afraid to listen to them more because that will make them higher than some bands that i am legitimately familiar with.
5. When I enjoy an artist, sometimes i’ll go on a “listening binge” of favorites by them, and won’t even pay attention to the music, thus increasing their ranking without also increasing my familiarity with them. (this practice of mine is exacerbated by extreme stress.)
6. While I’m always at least physically present, and preferably paying thorough attention, while music is playing, it’s not like I never manipulate my charts, trying to get x out my top x or into my top x.
7. I really think my top 100 is a better indicator than my top 50. I wish there were an option to hide the top tracks chart and display top 100 artists instead.
8. I have over 10,500 songs and counting, many of which have never been scrobbled and some of which I myself have not yet listened to whatsoever. It will take me forever to listen to all of them at least once, and even longer for me to become familiar with all of them, especially considering my tendency to listen to primarily my established favorites, as well as my unfortunate tendency to accidentally not pay full attention and not really gain anything from having played a song.
sadly, i’m sure there’s more.
