paint or draw everyday

I’ve been on creative fire this week. Ideas coming to me so smoothly and completely, all I have to do is move the pencil and the brush. I have to go with this momentum, don’t want to loose it. I know too well the souldeath that the creative dry spells bring.

and yesterday. I painted just a fun watercolor. Its not profound, but I think it’s fun :)

Its hard to put the paintbrushes down. I have to go to bed so I can teach tomorrow, but I am on such a streak! I don’t want it to end. The mandala (4’ x 4’) is finally coming along beautifully. There may be an end in sight, though now I am thinking of going back and changing all the spheres to cabochon jewels. That would bring such luminescence. Totally messed up my “Moonlight Sonata #3” watercolor. I’m scrapping it and starting over. Ok. Maybe I can scrape together time in the morning to work on it before I go off to the school. maybe.

This would seem a pretty simple goal, you get in front of your easel or drawing table and paint, that’s it. But it is really more complicated. Other things distract. Husband, housework, midless computer games, books to read. All of these things (except the husband) are products of what I call the ‘Can’t Monster’. It gets in your head and tells you that you can’t create, can’t finish, are simply going to mess up, and aren’t there dishes in the sink? It is something that has to be defeated every day. But I am getting closer to this goal. I’m actively working on about 4 paintings atm. I remind myself, all I have to do is stand up and get paint on teh brush and put it on the canvas or paper. It is truly that simple.

In the morning, I can carve out a few minutes and after I get home maybe a couple of hours. And there is time at work while the students are working, I can work on my own paintings. This IS doable.
