When I was little I remember that the tree house in Disney’s Swiss Family Robinson made a big impression on me. We checked out the one in Disneyland when we were there. I think I liked it more than my kids. My wife didn’t even go up, so I may have a problem convincing her to move to one.
When I was about 12, my best friend’s Dad let us build a fort in the rafters of their garage. It had a trap door and a rope ladder, and it was ultra-kool, (even though it was hot and stuffy up there most of the time :o)
A few years ago I remember reading an interesting magazine article about a guy that lived in tree houses in Central Park. The park guys were always trying to catch him but he managed to stay one step ahead of them. I liked that!
A while back I read "The Starship and the Canoe" which talks a bit about George Dyson and his tree house in the top of a Cedar tree (or was it a Douglas Fir) in British Columbia
Then there are these things, made right here in the wilds of British Columbia. I’d really like to try one out sometime.
