Cafeine & Alcohol Free 7 Weeks 3 months ago

Due to surgery and doc saying it would help with the post op. I had a half a coke and a few sips of a drink today, but I think if I only have one coke a week, I’ll be ok. I’m not really a drinker, so that’s not an issue. The real trick is going to NOT have coke while on business travel.

Been walking every day on the tread mill at a rapid pace. Two more weeks of rapid (and low impact) walking and I can slowly start back into running again. Takes so darn long to get back all my muscles after the surgery. 6” incision from my belly button down and now there’s no muscle strength any more… but I’m going to get it back and be even stronger.

Surgery solved so many health issues, that I’m not complaining at all! Just a little frustrated that I have to go so slowly in getting my body back in shape.

Drinking water really well. Not as good as right after surgery, but still way better than nearly all times in my life. This may be helping clear up my skin… or maybe that is just due to the hormones settling out.

Going back to work one week early 3 months ago

Because I’ve been doing all the things the doctor said to do post op, and I’ve been making my body get up and “do” and pushing it a tiny bit more towards normal every day, she said I’m ready. Still, no lifting, no running, but got a plan to get there. In reality, it will take 6 months to be completely back to “normal,” but in those 6 months, I’m actually going to be better than my “old normal.” I’d say that being able to go back to work early is a sign of my making significant strides on being more healthy.

Getting back in the habbit 3 months ago

Walked to the mail box. 10 min on treadmille 2.3 mph for 10 min this morning. Healthy breakfast. Vitamins. Got out and enjoyed the morning before it got hot. Drinking water and OJ. Feeling motivated.

Back on the treadmill 3 months ago

True, only walking a slow 2 mph and only getting to 65% of my max heart rate, but it gets the blood pumping and isn’t jaring my innards too much. After 10 minutes, I was pleasantly tired, but not exhauseted. I can tell that the increase in physical movement has helped me feel more energetic.

Did my 10 “lift the water bottle over my head” excersizes today. Not real weight training, but I could feel it stretching my body out, nice and slowly, no trauma to the innards. Still, I could feel it in my arms – even with just a little water bottle (16 oz) in each hand, it was way different than just stretching my hands over my head.

Eating more sugar than I probably should. Result of hanging around the house and not doing anything. I notice I eat less junk food if I have a plan to do stuff instead of sit in front of the TV.

Dr. apt in a few days. Hopefully I can go back to work. And hopefully, I can increase my activity level.

Walking more & better every day 3 months ago

At first I could barely walk to the mailbox (2 blocks away), but now I can make several trips a day. I am still using my breathing exerciser – even though my lung capacity is OK, I want it to be great like when I was running (or a long time ago when I used to swim and play the clarinet). Using my heart rate watch, too. Been drinking lots of water, too. And – still taking my vitamins every day. I meditate a little, every day, too – the ying to the yang of exercise.

Pocket book and health getting better; now just need to expand to my living environment – declutter it and make it healthier, too.

Vitamins every day for a week 4 months ago

This could be a record for me! Getting in the habbit of doing healthy things! I can tell I’m doing good with the vitamins because my fingernails are growing faster and are stronger. They are always stronger when I take vitamins.

healing amazingly fast 4 months ago

stopped using narcotics even before I left the hospital – just Motrin. still need Motrin in the late evening, but down to just one dose a day. even though I’ve reached my target volume on my lung exerciser, I know my normal capacity is bigger than that, so I’m continuing to use it. lots of water, lots of air, and exercise… feeling better every day!

Keeping up with excersize - even in the hospital 4 months ago

Being fit set me up good for my surgery. I am walking around the whole hospital floor several times a day. I also get up and down from the chair and do low impact excersises twice a day. I can feel it making me stronger. I know I’m going to heal in record time and heal well.

Walking again 4 months ago

May was a good month for this. June sucked – my whole life in June was wrapped around the Army and work. July is looking up. Did 10 minutes on the treadmill keeping my hear rate right where it should be. I can do that rate for a long time each night. Surgery will interrupt the hard excersise for a while, but if I do low impact walking, it will actually help me heal up. Feels good to be taking control of my life again.

Healthy start to the week 10 months ago

Fresh squeezed OJ
Hours old eggs from my chickies turned into a yummy omlet with red bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, a little bit of left over steak, some garlic and basil and a slice of swiss cheese. Garlic and basil were from last year’s garden, although the basil was frozen. Toms, bell pepper and mushrooms were from the store, but still, my USUAL breakfast would be a coke and a pastry.
Probably one of the more healthy meals I’ve eaten in a long time!
