I actually sort of have a floor. Making some progress. Cleared and organized two shelves in my book case. Decided a few of the binders just needed a home there. They are mostly on the shelf in my closet that I can only reach with a step ladder. But the ones I use a lot, end up getting taken down and then just left on the floor in a pile in the closet. Having the main 4 in my book case should help with that.
Identified a garbage bag of clothes not fit to give away, and only fit to wear for grungy work. Keeping one set and dumping the rest.
It’s a start. Or, a re-start, any way.

Renewed Zest

Now that I am feeling stronger (after surgery) and I have time (since I’m still not back to work), I’ve decided to try my hand at this again. Can’t do any lifting over 10 lbs and can’t “bend and stretch” much, but I can do things like clear the clutter off of my headboard, clean out one drawer a day, hang things up on hangers…

- washed all my dirty laundry
- filled a trash bag with trash
- cleared a path in front of my bed
- organized magazines (the never ending task)
- hung up some clean laundry

It’s good that Mom’s visiting – always a good excuse to clean house! Not that she cares so much – as long as we aren’t filthy, she’s more interested in visiting us than in inspecting the house – still, it’s good to clean up a bit before Mom visits.
Also, we don’t have much money this year, but I know my husband really likes it when the place is organized and clean looking, so I will work on this as a sort of present for him, too.
So, I’m on vacation this week, so this is a good time to make some inroads.

Mom's visiting
I’m glad to say that I’ve kept my bathroom pretty clean since that’s where Mom is taking her showers and such. My room has seen both better and worse days (she has to go through our room to the bathroom), but at least it isn’t a health hazzard right now and there is a clearly defined path through the books and papers. And all the laundry is in the laundry basket and not in piles on the floor. The half-hour “whilwind” thing seems to really help. I set the timer and promise that when the bell Dings, I will STOP cleaning. Otherwise I start getting overwhelmed and thinking I have to be perfect, and then I slow down and start doing nit-picky things instead of high impact things. I THINK my room is in better condition than 6 months ago. Maybe I should take a picture so I can see what it looks like each month (NOT going to post here, though – way too embarrassed to be 40 something and still can’t keep my room clean!) (and as stated before, it isn’t my HUSBAND’s stuff all over…)

Now, I am not saying that a half hour turned my messy room into the sparkling, inviting retreat that I would some day like… but it did improve functionality and does look less cluttered. Also, over the weekend I gave my bathroom a good cleaning, and it feels so much better in there without the clutter.

my room is STILL a mess. I’m not giving up on this, yet, though. There are parts of it that are getting better. Very slowly.

Good for my weight loss program and good for my room and good for my ‘de junking’ goal, too. Trying to do things that serve multiple purposes.
Keeping up with the maintenance – so at least it isn’t getting WORSE.

and I still haven’t completed this! I got a lot done around the holidays, but it’s getting messy again. Drats!

Should be the perfect opportunity to get my act together and do some major cleaning, yes? School is over, only a 3 day week, kids are hanging out at their older sister’s apt, and the dear husband will be away at work. Just me and the dogs. A good time to work on this goal – we’ll have a nice room for the New Years!
