I'm done!  — 2 years ago

Yesterday was my last day. The boss took me out to lunch, thanked me, and said I could come back any time. But I don’t want to go back – I want to get on with the next thing. Today I plan to relax. Then I’ll begin doing all those little things I want to do before school starts in August.

I gave notice on Wednesday. I’ll work next week, then no more working for me. Rather, no more working for a paycheck. I’ve got a ton of work to do… paint the trim on the house before the wood completely rots, fix my motorcycle, learn some biochemistry, etc.

No more pesky job. I feel so good.

(no more pesky paycheck either; this is going to be interesting.)

I still haven't quit  — 2 years ago

But I no longer work more than three days per week. This helps. Last week I spent one of my days off researching insurance rates. I ended up changing the policies on my car and our house… and new we are paying nearly $1200 less per year than we were. This is a lot more than I make in one day of work, so at least on that day, not working was profitable.

I think when everyone in a household works full time, some things end up being more expensive, because of the time factor. We’ve been spending less on food too, since I’ve got more time to cok nice things, we are eating out less… which saves gas, etc.

I didn't go today (or yesterday)  — 2 years ago

But I’ll go tomorrow. If I don’t get up the nerve to quit, maybe I’ll just cut it back to two days a week.

I figured out how to quit  — 2 years ago

Today I am writing a letter explaining that I am reviewing my options for summer and the rest of the spring. One of those options is to continue at my present job. But in order for that to be feasable, I will require a serious raise. If I don’t get this raise, I shall simply give notice. This is what I suspect will happen. If, in the unlikely event that my request is granted, I will change my mind about wanting to quit.

I don’t think this will be the easiest letter to write, but I’m not going anywhere today. I’ve got time to make it nice.

I work for a maniac who cannot imagine life outside of work.  — 2 years ago

If he wants to work all the time, I guess that’s fine. But I’ve realized that he has no concept about other people and their free time. This weekend, because I am an idiot, I went into work at 8am BOTH days. Did I have a weekend? No. Was he thankful? No. Sheesh. Why do I let him suck up MY time? I work hard when I’m at work; I just don’t want to work so much that I don’t get a chance to do anything else.

I have to quit before the end of August because of school. I ought to quit now.
