Found a meetup group that meets on Mondays in Royal Oak. I went and thought it was pretty great. Took my girlfriend who is also learning, but she wasn’t comfortable trying. That wasn’t so great. I met some really interesting people though and look forward to going back. Oh, more details. Well, they try to only speak Spanish. There are novices and native speakers. People bring dictionaries and we meet at a coffee shop. It was like being in Quito.

Trying to work on this this summer (like every summer). Been looking through a textbook. Itunes not working out too well. Hard to find lessons that constantly update.
I’ve been collecting children’s stories in Spanish. Lately, I’ve incorporated reading them into my morning routine. 5 minutes a day. I also found several podcasts in Itunes and have subscribed to a couple. These allow me a chance to practice while on my morning and evening commutes.
A friend of mine is taking a Spanish class! Yay! I now have more books and lessons to look at and someone to practice with! Fluency will come later, but at least I’m on track.
I want to do this, but where is the time? I must make time. I also need a reason. I want to start a science club for Spanish enthusiasts at school as part of a bigger goal to visit the Galapagos again. My plans are sooooo huge all the damn time!
Recently bought another set of cd’s to practice with. The last ones were very intense and came with very thick workbooks. I used them to prepare for my trip to South America. The latest I purchased were impossible to pass up. Cost me about $6.
It’s hard to find time to practice. In order to practice, I:
watch movies with Spanish subtitles
read children’s stories
read magazines like People and Discover
find penpals online
read my Bible
took Spanish in undergrad. Have tried to stay with it in some form for the past 20 years. I love it! But I’m not fluent.
