Finished: Moving Pictures

Like Soul Music, Moving Pictures is a parody, not of a book, but of a whole cultural movement. Soul Music dealt with the birth of Rock & Roll (“Music With Rocks In” in Discworld); Moving Pictures took on early Hollywood and the birth of the silent movie industry. As you can imagine, everything is referenced and parodied - the rise of the movie studios, the lives of actors, the creation of stars and starlets, the wildfire way the movies swept over the imagination of the people. And just as with Soul Music, the overall effect is the same - it’s too much for the Discworld to take, and the veil between the worlds weakens, and the Dungeon Dimensions start to creep in, etc, etc.
Quite excellent.

As several people have said, this is the weakest one so far. But still enjoyable—you get an extended Trojan (Tsortian) War parody, an overall Faustian plot, some insight into Discworld’s cosmology/demonology, and more of Rincewind being cowardly.

Now, can anybody explain to me what happens at the very end of the book, between Teppic and Ptraci? All it says is that they “kiss chastely”, and the camel notices that some kind of decision was made. So… what happens? Does he stay in the kingdom?
