alright, i’ve been slacking on this one. i didn’t finish anything in may, but i did read Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. It started out pretty slow, but the ending was quite rewarding and i got a great quote out of it.

I finished the third and fourth books of the Twilight series and I’m glad to say its done. By the end of the fourth book I was more excited about putting the series behind me than actually knowing what happens. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I finished it and am glad I know how she decided to sum things up, but it wasn’t nearly as interesting as reading the 7 Harry Potter books. I wasn’t as enthralled as I had hoped I’d be. Oh well, what’s next? My friend lent me He’s Just Not that Into You (is she hinting something?) so maybe I’ll suffer through that.

I’m getting better with this goal. I bought Fried Green Tomatoes a year ago, but its been sitting on my bookshelf. It was hard to get in to, and was a little hard to follow at times, but i liked it much more than the movie. In the movie, the spirit of Towanda is shown as empowering for the main character, but in the book, Towanda is more of her slipping over to a “negatively empowering” state.
Anywho, it was worth the time, but not one I’ll read again.

i also got into the Twilight series and fell in love with the first book. Twilight was awesome, but the second book, New Moon, wasn’t as engaging. One of my girlfriends took me to see the movie (before reading the book) and after seeing it I had to read the book. Watching the movie made it apparent there were things being left out and I usually like the book better than the movie anyway… Let’s see how the second movie is…

I bought The Last Lecture after a year of procrastinating and was so happy I did. At my friend’s graduation last summer, the key speaker referenced The Last Lecture and some of the points the author makes. I was told that I would cry when reading it, because the author does die (after writing the book), but I found the book to be uplifting, inspiring, and a beautiful reminder of the important things. I actually pulled this book out at my parents house and read pieces to my mother that made me think of her.

its not that earth-shattering of a read, but i received “The Tales of Beetle Bard” for Christmas. Harry Potter fans know that this book plays an integral part of the last book of the series so it was cool reading the tales for myself. i’m going to try to finish the other book i started this month and see if i can finish that before the end of the month (tomorrow). two small books make on adult book right?

The Last Madam
The book itself wasn’t that great (it read like a 200 page newspaper article written before the author was diagnosed with ADD), but the anecdotes throughout the book were fascinating. They painted a picture of a smart, driven woman who (in my opinion) always felt like she was lacking something and filled the void with sex with young, handsome lovers. It was an awesome glimps of New Orleans during the first half of the 20th century.

Has anyone else read or watched the Anne of Avonlea series? When I was home I found my Anne books written by L.M. Montgomery and decided to read the books I never got around to as a child. Anne of Green Gables is just the first in the series and I’m so excited to read the rest of them now. No one I’ve talked to has heard of these books or the TV series that used to show on the Disney Channel. Have you?

i’ve become so terrible about actually finishing the books i’ve picked up. don’t get me wrong, i’ve started many books, but i’ve only finished one – Eat, Pray, Love – and it was wonderful. Its a true story about the author’s rough divorce, rougher post-divorce boyfriend, and year long journey through Italy, Indian, and Indonesia to find herself. Its such an inspirational book that I’ve quit my job and have begun trying to suss out what makes me happy, in the same vein as this book.

I forgot that I read Lilydaly: the true story of a town that talks to the dead. It was such a fascinating read about the history of a small town in northwest New York founded by people with deep beliefs in Spiritual matters. There are stories of different people who’ve both lived in the town their whole lives as well as people who came for a visit and it changed their lives. It was interesting to learn about their beliefs which are strangely similar to mine even though I never knew what “Spiritualism” exactly was. If you’re interested in the paranormal, give this book a try.

i became a little disgusted with myself when i realized i really hadn’t read anything except harry potter in the past few months (year?). Since i was flying home for Thanksgiving I decided to pick up a new book, David Sedaris’s Dress your Family in Denim and Cordeuroy (i can’t spell cord…). Its a collection of short stories that had me laughing out loud in an airport waiting room… i got some funny looks.
Read it, its good!
