landscape my yard

It is getting that time of year when the grass is starting to grow a bit in my part of the South where it is normally warm. Right now, though, getting out to work in the yard is not an option. We have been having so much rain lately that my front yard is a wet and muddy mess. I have a large bare area where I have been unable to get anything to grow. I am going to try and figure out what to do to this area this year. I want a fully green lawn!

It is time for my wife and I to finally get out and start adding some flower beds around our home.

A while back, my father-in-law came by and buried some pipes running from our downspouts so that the water would move away from the house down into the creek behind my house. Things are a little drier in my back yard after it rains now.

Ha! It is about to turn to the “winter” season here in the Southeast and instead of the normal 50 degree temperatures that we have where I live, we have been in the middle to upper 70s lately. So, I have some very nice green grass coming up in the areas where I had planted seed last year. We got some rain today, so that should help it out. Unfortunately, it is supposed to be down to about 26 this weekend with highs in the low to mid-40s. Oh well.

Probably 90% of the rocks that were in the yard have not been removed. It is a tough, back-breaking ordeal, but it had to be done before spreading seed for the lawn. I was able to get the seed spread for the lawn on the front side of the house. I need to hook up some chain-link to the John Deere tractor and drag over it to stir it up with the dirt before we get some rain, which is hopefully soon.

I added a note on one of my other goals about the yard getting plowed today. It was mostly dirt with some field grass. It will get plowed again tomorrow and then drug with some heavy chain-link fencing. We will then sow it and cover with hay. (there goes the water bill)

My house is sitting on a big vein of rock. So, the dirt in the yard, which came from the basement dig is filled with large and small rocks. It is time to put my seven year old to work! :)

We moved into our new home about two months ago. During that time, I have been very busy at work, so we haven’t really had time to do much in the yard and it really shows. We have a lot of dirt with weeds. Some of the old pasture grass is coming through, but it is very tough and looks bad.

It is time to get out and start doing some work to make this a better looking place.
