I have had a complete filing cabinet filled with my mother’s old papers that I finally went through. She was a writer and saved all sorts of stuff – newspaper stories etc for ideas for books or stories. She was Finnish, and she had some notes about speaking Finnish. She said the language has no future tense. So, I guess the present tense has alot of meaning, or maybe present tense like absolute statements, I like dogs – I like them today, and always have, always will.

this seems antithetical to my goal of moving to warmer climate. Finland is even closer to the North Pole than Toronto. But my grandparents were Finns, and I understand there is some really cool architecture there. Plus, I would like to just see what it looks like and see what it feels like to be around lots of people who look just like me.
