When Master 6 came home from school, he said “oh Mum I love your bird, but….....”
I held my breath I don’t take critism well, unless it’s from an expert like my teacher!
Mummy: “Why William what’s wrong with my picture?”
William: “well, that trees not exactly right”
Mummy: “Really (Trying not to smile) what’s wrong with it?”
William: (Being very important and deadly serious!)”it’s just not right”
Mummy: “Oh ok, well what do you think I can do to make it better?”
William: “I don’t know I just know it’s not right, but it’s not so bad, and anyways Mummy Jeff (my art teacher) said that you could do it how you like it, so if you like your tree wrong then it’s Ok with me”
Mummy: (Now I’m trying not to laugh) Oh ok thanks William what do you think of L’s Toucan?”
William: “Oh that’s ok, not as good as yours and it’s wrong too”
Mummy: (I was thinking to myself, Shit I took this kid to the Art Gallery for three hours and suddenly he’s a bloody Art critic) “What’s wrong with L’s picture William?”
William:”Oh well see here” (He points to the beak) there’s not enough orange”
I nodded wisely and asked: “Anything else wrong with it?”
William: “Well it’s not exactly the same as the picture she changed the shape” but I guess it’s OK for her first time!!!”
At that time my Bloke walked in and William pointed out these “faults” to him. He raised an eyebrow and waited until William walked out of the room and asked “Woah when did he become an art critic?!”
Goes to show you can please some people some of the time but not all of the poeple all of the time. I got very mixed reactions to this one and I’ll take to to class tomorrow and ask Jeff what he thinks!
Meanwhile here’s L’s “Peacan-the toucan” she kept saying “I want to paint that peacan” and I’m like the what?! She picked up the picture and I said “It’s a bloody TOUCAN not a peacan” Oh well she did a great job!
