I’ve reactivated my account with Bookmooch. I’ve a few dozen books I don’t think I’ll ever read again. Being unable to bear the idea of throwing books out, or sending something to the recycling plant unless it’s beyond reading, I like the idea of sending my books to good homes.

still purging! 18 months ago

I don’t know why shoes that fit seven years ago don’t fit now! It didn’t make much sense to organize the clothes and not the shoes..so I’m cleaning those out too. Goodbye to the running shoes brought for me when I was (briefly) convinced to take up jogging. Farewell to the red satin sandals which don’t fit, despite my trying them on several times. Au revoir pointy-toed heels.

I finally stopped dreaming about it and cleaned the darned closet out. Summer clothes (all of which fit and ready to wear) are on one side of the closet; out-of-season clothes and those which should fit by then are on the other. And the fifty or so empty hangers are in the laundry.

Some of the clothes my mom wanted, and a few things I think I can recycle into other clothes or accessories. The rest I will be donating to GoodWill. They’re in fairly good condition; a few pieces were never worn (brightly-colored polyester suits given to me by someone with the best of intentions but which I’d never wear). I’m hoping there’s someone my size who could use some new professional clothes. A few things I really liked but I can’t wear anymore because of my hair! Dreadlocks and anything higher than a crew-neck do not mix.

Purge! Purge! Purge! 18 months ago

You know all that stuff I’ve been keeping for no good reason? The ugly pocketbook someone brought me from abroad? The mechanical motorized cat? The perfume set my sister gave my mom that my mom gave me? Gone. Gone. Gone. I’m also getting rid of papers from classes I took years ago. And books I don’t like (few and far between) or won’t read ever again. I’ve even brung myself to put the stacks of magazine pages with recipes I’ve intended to write down in the recyling bin along with most of the magazines I’ve been saving in case I felt like reading them again.

The closet is going to be next. Is there a patron saint for hoarders?

Goodbye ugly dresser! 19 months ago

I finally cleaned out the loathsome beast and dragged it out of the room. It’s been shoved into the “craft room”. It’s still ugly, but it’s tolerable now.
