Whoa…did you know this:
So everytime you donate blood the bloodbank would get:
1 red blood cell unit
1 unit of platelet

…follow me? So here is how many each takes:
Automobile Accident
- up to 50 Units of Red Blood Cells
Organ Transplant Recipient- up to 40 units of RBC

I found this fact here: http://bloodbanker.com/plasma/centers/automated-blood-donation-the-noob-explaination/

Hi,
I’ve donated blood for money and for fun. Here’s how it breaks down. You can donate blood at a blood drive or donation center for the good of mankind. Did you know that 1 blood donation saves 3 lives? Or…you can sell your blood to a plasma program for around 20-40$ per donation…and you can give plasma about twice a week. Not a bad way to make a little extra cash…and help out!
Check out http://bloodbanker.com for local blood donation centers.
