I stopped on 29th October 2009 but am still on NRT so leaving this as an active Thing.

Motivation

My mother was diagnosed with bowel cancer just before Christmas and that’s been the motivation I needed to quit. I’m cigarette free now and also free of NRT. I don’t believe I’ll pick them up again – not after watching her go through all this.

No Reduction

I had to buy another packet of nicotine gum today. I would have gone down to the 2mg strength but I’m going on holiday with (smoking) M&D at the end of this month so I’ve stayed on 4mg. I don’t know what’s going to happen when I’m away – historically, not smoking doesn’t stand a chance – and will cross the bridges as I come to them. But I think my best chance of staying quit is with the higher dose of medication.

NRT Complete

Well, today’s my first day without the NRT patch. I’m feeling fine even though I’m at my parents’ house and they’re both smokers. I am still using the gum and plan to wean off that very slowly. I only have a few pieces in a normal day anyway. I’ll mark this Thing complete when I’ve done that.

Step 3

I have now been quit a whole two months and have started the third and final stage of NRT.

One month

A little update … No cigarettes for a month now and I’ve started the Step 2 patch.
