done with one 2 years ago

This one is my backup pair. I used up all of my allotment from Kaiser and got a budget pair. But they don’t look too bad.

Next year I’ll shell out some money for a more glitzy pair, but not right now. I wear contacts most of the time in any case.

Is it possible? 2 years ago

to get new glasses and stay within 175.00? I mean, where I get glasses?

I’m used to getting anti-glare, anti-scratch, ultra-thin lenses inside designer frames. But where I used to live they didn’t cost quite as much. Also, now I have coverage, but only (only!) 175.00 worth.

So I’m going to get cheapo frames (I wasn’t able to find any for under 60.00) and cokebottly scratchy glarey lenses. These will be my backup pair. I’ll never wear them, unless I get an eye infection. And then I’ll never leave the house.

When I am rolling in it then I’ll get nice ones.

I could try to get nicer frames off eBay. But I really don’t think that’s a good idea, because you can’t try them on.

ordered contacts today 2 years ago

my old eye doctor in Carrboro was nice enough to send me an order. They are more expensive here (what a surprise) even with the shipping cost. How annoying. That is what eye coverage gets you.

oh, and almost forgot . . . 2 years ago

I found out that I am covered up to 175.00 which is all well and good. Except that I have gotten used to anti-scratch, anti-glare and super thin lenses, all of which add up to something like 240.00 before you factor in the frames. I don’t think I want to compromise on this though; it is important to me to look good in my glasses so that I don’t feel compelled to wear contacts all the time. Like now.

argh 2 years ago

I should have done this long ago. Instead, I left my contacts in all through my many flights to/from Louisiana, my eyes dried out terribly and I got a bacterial infection. I’m on my last pair of contacts because the Kaiser communication system is so stupid, I can’t wear them anyway and my glasses are still broken and I still haven’t gotten any new ones. While I was at the opthamologist I decided I’d look at frames, but really, how can I reasonably judge how I look in frames when I am a) blind as a bat (can’t wear my contacts) and b) have horrible pink eye/conjunctivitis? I don’t know how I can go in and teach tomorrow with these glasses-they keep falling off and sit lopsided (they are missing the bow on one side). I’m going to flout the doctor’s directive and wear my contacts just to teach in, then immediately go home and not put them in until next week. In the meantime I hope these antibiotics work.

Sheesh . . . for want of a nail etc. etc.

uh, what happened to this? 2 years ago

And why haven’t I been faster to get this done? Trying to use the broken ones I have is driving me crazy, as is wearing contacts way too much of the time. Maybe Monday.

unfortunately 2 years ago

even though I got my eyes checked I didn’t feel like I could take the time to pick out frames, and it also wasn’t a good day to do that for other reasons. Now I won’t get it done until the middle of January, when I get back into town. At least I have a current prescription.

This should get me moving 3 years ago

I have an eye appointment . . . next Thursday!
