get back in touch with old friends

This needs an entry: we were in Dublin the week before last and I met my lovely Emma for the first time in 2 years! It was great, and we’re going to stay in touch! I missed her so.

I had planned to meet lots of old friends while in Finland, but due to the circumstances I only managed to see 5 of my friends. They were 5 of my closest friends and I was so happy to see them that thinking about it still brings little wussy tears in my eyes, but there was still a good few people I missed.

In my defense, the world seemed a bit against us on the trip: my oldest sister was put into a hospital just a few days before I arrived (I didn’t get so see her either) so the first few days I spent with my other sister, talkingtalkingtalking about her situation. Once I had all the family stuff done, I got mastitis accompanied with a high fever, and I couldn’t get out of the bed for 2 days. The week was nearly gone already, but once I was back out and about, the baby’s flu killed all previous plans and we ended up not going back to Helsinki at the end of the trip as planned at first.

To make up for this, I have been emailing, texting and IM:ing this week. I found a few long-lost friends in MySpace, they have been delighted to hear from me and that’s totally made my week. There is so many people I miss in this world!

emailed Gaetano and Kirsti today and talked to Raouf in the messenger yesterday. Slowly, steady now…

We went to Dublin last Friday and met up with Judith in a lovely Italian wine bar by the Liffey. Not that there would be anything particularly beautiful about Liffey. I hadn’t spoken to her for 2 years but things were exactly as we left them. It was so good to talk to her again, and we said we’d keep in touch more often now.

I also met up with Derek, Kevin and Amel. It was really good to see them too, it was a bit of a reality check to introduce my child to the friends I used to live during the years when I had a lighter approach to life. So nice.

Next step: I’m going to Finland next month and hoping to catch up with some old school friends during my short few days in Helsinki.

I just got an email from Amel today, and I’ll be meeting up with her when we go to Dublin next week! Yay! Hopefully I can meet other people off my list while I’m there. I’m trying to find the courage to ring a few more next week.

It’s even harder than usually now that my life is changed so much, some of the people I want to see again don’t even know I’m going out with anyone, let alone that we’ve had a baby. See, it’s been far too long.

To start doing something about this goal, I decided to make a list of people I would like to get back in touch with:
