I went to a couple of museums here in Finland on Thursday, and just as we walked in the Art Museum, an “early music” (=medieval music) concert was just about to start. A curator I know there was very impressed that I’d started my baby’s cultural education at such an early age, so I had no choice but to sit down to listen to them. The band was very good and the music was lovely, when I was able to forget the fact that the musicians looked a bit freaky, dressed up as medieval bards.
A bit aside the subject, but I never understood people’s fascination of the old ages, but each to their own I guess. I had friends at school who would dress up in that sort of gear in public and go to Live Action Role Plays that lasted for days, and pretended they lived in the medieval times. Actually, in this case the costumes brought a nice touch to the show but I thought the girl at the CD-stand was dressed up as Lady Marian out of vanity. I love dressing up too so I’d probably done the same if I had appreciation to all things medieval.
Anyway, I came out feeling strangely refreshed, which was excellent. Note to self: look into classical music concerts in Edinburgh.
