I do run, but...  — 5 months ago

It’s not really far enough. I run most days – down to the gym, and sometimes to the train station, when I’m on an early shift, and someone’s giving me a ride to work. But neither of these if it’s very icy. Both take me just over five minutes, so it’s not running for the cardio, but more to get my legs used to running. I’m determined not to have injuries with them like last year.

Running club  — 6 months ago

I’m gonna try to start my own group to go running with. I think one of my friends would be up for it, and hopefully we can build it up. When I start working shifts at my new job, it will be harder to keep regular, but I’m hoping we can work round that. I really should be doing regular road running, and this will motivate me.

I'm getting somewhere!  — 9 months ago

A friend called me up today and asked if I wanted to for a jog! This was music to my ears! And all my fitness is beginning to work without hurting my legs now, so I should be able to run even more frequently now.

It was good running with someone who’s not as good as me. That way, I could wait for her to give up first. I think I could have carried on for at least a mile more, probably a mile and a half. She was a terrible judge of distance. I guess we ran just over two miles. She was convinced it was more like five. Haha – no way.

I’m discovering running and jogging are very different, as is going on a treadmill, inside and outdoors. I’ll try to do a mixture often.

I’ll go for my two mile fast run tomorrow!

I just wanna run!  — 9 months ago

The hardest thing about this goal is not the running, but the waiting to recover. It drives me crazy! I want to get better, but I have to be so patient with my legs, which means avoiding other fitness which is high impact when they hurt. I’m beginning to figure out what works best for me now, and I really hope I’ll be able to start running if I’m more careful.

For the next month, everytime I can’t run, I’m going to do two minutes of pushups or situps, as this is all part of the Army PT test. All this is as well as, on average, three fitness classes a day.

I love to run, but I'm not very good  — 9 months ago

I’m very fast in short distance – I can usually beat people in races (always in boxing races), but I need to work on my long distance. So, I’ve decided to run almost everyday, after I’ve had a work out, so I’m all warmed up; mostly on the treadmill, but we’re starting a running group on Tuesday mornings. I’m also gonna keep up with lots of aqua classes, because they seem to help with the pain I had in my legs before. And less leg destroying high impact classes – only doing those if I feel 100%!

Yesterday I ran three kilometers in 16:20. Today, I was aiming for four kilometers but I knew I was gonna get bored without having my iPod, so I did three again, but beat my time with 14:08! That doesn’t sound so impressive, but it was TOUGH! I had already done an aqua class, aerobics and weights work out immediately before. Tomorrow, I think I’ll go for two miles, because that’s in between three and four kilometers. I need to know how well I can do that in Army standards.

In a few weeks, as I progress, every time I’m at the gym twice, I hope to try for one time with timing my two miles, and another time with seeing how far I can go!
