This goal is closely related to my ‘save money to travel’ goal. During my first year away from home I had enough trouble keeping any money whatsoever. There wasn’t enough to even think about saving. It really unhealthy for the mind.
This year I’m a lot better. Living away from any decent shopping/food outlets is helpful, also I found a steady job that pays okay not long after moving to this city. Becoming vegetarian has meant that most takeaway food options are undesirable to me, so I cook pretty much everything at home except for the odd vege sushi roll when out. And, of course, I had to do a big chuck out of terms of clothes/possessions before I moved here. I feel a lot clearer and more unburdened as a result.
But there is still room for improvement. I will try to:
-Minimise general impulse spending (I honestly don’t know where a lot of my money goes – I have no cars or expensive technical equipment to show for it. I just waste it on nothing, really.)
-Buy no new clothes unless something I need properly breaks. I have too many clothes, but the trap is that I get sick of certain items even if they are still functional.
-Learn to live on less food. Only eat when I’m hungry. Buy/cook meals in bulk. Not buy chocolate etc that I will inevitably binge on and finish within an hour or so.
-Save! When I get paid, leave the money in the bank!
