The plants I got off someone’s curb this year are actually doing okay. The other plants I got off a different curb last year are not. I had one between the bushes and they survived without being mowed at first but then they got mowed down later. I was really mad. Why do I have to point out that I don’t want my plants mowed down every single time? Another one of these plants I placed outside a little later and it seemed to die right away. I’ve been trying to check it to see if it will come back from the roots.

On trash day I found a bunch of plants on someone’s curb. I scooped them up and took them home. I planted them all together one one side of my house. I hope they survive and come up again next year.
I never did move my bulbs out of the shade between my bushes. I actually have another plant in there that I got off the curb last year after someone had hacked a spreading plant back for the winter. It’s not doing so great although it looks much better than what it looked like sitting in a glass jar on my counter all winter.
I bought seeds at the store this year but it’s almost June and I haven’t planted anything. I once tried to put a pumpkin dead center of my front yard but my husband vetoed it. No imagination. This year I’ve been thinking of planting watermelons around my bushes. :D I know they won’t do great but I think they’ll look pretty cool and since I’ve allready told my husband not to mow around my bushes anymore, I think they’ll be safe.
I think my bulbs never flower because they get too much shade. I’m going to move them to a sunnier spot and maybe next year I’ll have some flowers.
I wonder if it’s okay to plant perrenials over the winter. I think I did actually try that once but I waited too late. My bulbs looked like crap that first year and haven’t come back since. :(
How many plants should I have in my small yard so that I can say, “I have a garden.”
I still want to use native plants somehow.
I’m not that big into flowers, but I don’t want boring plants.
I also can’t stand those cutesy, overdone bordered gardens. A garden at the corner of the yard, shaped like a triangle and bordered with bricks. (GAG!)
I want to get started but I don’t know where to begin.
I’m DEFINATELY overthinking this.
She uses plants that need minimal care. I want to do the same thing. My hard is too small for veggies anyway. I want to use plants that are native to my area and might attract birds and butterflies. I allready have a new water feature and the perfect place to put it.
She was telling me how she wanted a whole section to have black-eyed susans in it. So I was at the hardware store and I tried to get her some but they didn’t have any.
I need shade loving plants. The sun comes from the front of my house so my house makes a big shadow most of the time across my back yard. I’d love to have vegetables and stuff back there but I don’t think most edible stuff will grow in the shade.
I had some seeds and I just basically sprinkled them around my backyard. I planted them too early and not much came up that I could see. It also didn’t help that my husband kept mowing. So anything that did come up got destroyed. I had a lot of sunflowers that came up and got mowed down.
Two years ago, I tried to plant tulips in my front yard. I planted them between my bushes but:
They got stepped on when we put our windows in (they hadn’t flowered yet)
They got mowed down when we hired neighborhood boys to mow our lawn. Speaking of the neighborhood mower. I made a makeshift fountain using a solar pump. We hired a guy to do our lawn a couple of days ago. He ran over the wire to the pump and didn’t tell us about it. I told my husband, I’m tired of these guys. We’re going to get our own mower now. We have a tiny yard too so all we really need is a push mower.
