When to walk?
Walking on a summer evening is very pleasant, but walking in the dark on a winter evening is less so.
I walk to my office and back most days, but that’s only 15 minutes each way. I should really walk for at least an hour.
I have an audiobook which is 32 hours long! If I were to walk whilst listening to an hour’s worth every day, this could motivate me for a month! I hope it’s a good story.

A daily walk hasn’t fit comfortably into my routine as yet and I think I know why: I’ve been attempting to walk at a time in the evening when I haven’t yet “switched off”; walking feels like a distraction from doing, when I still have energy and focus.
For the next week, I’m going to walk later in the evening, when I’m winding down: the time when I might otherwise veg out watching a DVD. Let’s see how this works out.

I walked to the Farmer’s market & back, a three mile round trip. Didn’t really feel like a “walk” for some reason. I guess my previous walks have gone through a park or something similar, while today I saw no more than a grass verge at the side of a road. The blue sky was beautiful, but I seem to need blue and green!

Didn’t walk on Tuesday (no time) or Wednesday (no podcast: what a feeble excuse!) and I missed my Couch to 5k session this morning. I didn’t feel much like running this evening, so went for a long walk to scout out new routes to run.
I must have covered at least five, possibly six miles. I found another park with a mirror-like pond under the stormy sky: the camera on my iPhone couldn’t do it justice, unfortunately, but I’ll be back!

Out of road

Seems I walk faster than I thought: I set off for the edge of town and ran out of road well before the half way mark of my podcast (and I didn’t fancy walking on the motorway!).
Friends always complain that I walk too fast: first time I’ve ever had cause to make the same complaint!

When I lived in London, I walked everywhere: the traffic was so bad I was faster than the buses! Now my work requires a car (30 minutes’ drive each way from my base to my clinics) and I live only 10 minutes’ walk from my office.
And yet…there are a number of hour-long podcasts to which I love to listen and which I can’t focus upon when I’m working so…my new rule is that I only get to listen to them if I’m walking. If I can’t find the time to walk, I miss out on the podcast.
An hour’s walk for me is 3-4 miles. so I guess I walked about 5 miles today listening to the Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe. Feels good (and the podcast was great too)!
