Several months ago I donated to the Mediation Society of Australia which then permitted me access to download guided meditations from their website. Todays exercise required the lighting of a candle and to simple gaze upon the candle as the only thing that exists.
I enjoyed the practice of intensively focusing on the flame and imagining the light entering through my breath. I have previously attempted meditation with eyes closed as a way of blocking out the world. But the act of peacefully focusing my gaze on this flame that was leaping and flickering, constantly changing, actually proved more effective in settling the thoughts running through my head. While I only achieved about seven or eight minutes I am eager to try this exercise again tomorrow.
