Well, I received some beautiful flowers for my birthday, but they don’t fit the criteria for crossing this off my list. Still nice, though! My boyfriend’s mother was in town the day before my birthday, so I invited her to join us and my parents at dinner. She brought three of her grandchildren (8, 9, and 11), and when they arrived at the restaurant, one had a lovely bouquet of yellow baby roses (yellow is my favorite), one had a cute little card they’d drawn, and one had a giant chocolate bar for me. So sweet… I love those kids. But since the bouquet didn’t come from a suitor of some sort, it just doesn’t quite count here!
(I have to say, though, I hope he doesn’t decide to buy me flowers for Valentine’s Day… I’ve always been disgusted by how much the prices are inflated for the holiday.)

The last time I received flowers from a guy was my prom, which was more years ago than I care to admit. (Well, that’s not entirely true… my ex-boyfriend did once bring me flowers after cheating on me, but I don’t count those because they certainly didn’t make me happy.) I’ve received flowers from family for special events, of course, and I’ve been known to buy some for my house on occasion, but I really want to be surprised with flowers by my significant other, especially for no reason at all.
Last night my friends had a dinner party, and I called my boyfriend to suggest that he stop on the way to my house and pick up some flowers as a gift for the hostesses. He called me back a few minutes later to tell me that he’d bring a couple of bottles of wine instead, because he didn’t want to bring my friends flowers if he’d never even brought me flowers. Hopes up a tiny bit; at least he realizes it!
