This was most worth doing, dudes.  — 1 year ago

The theatre is so special. It’s small but not that small, and the fact that it’s all made of wood makes it unique.

The play we saw (Titus Andronicus)was long but full of exciting and gruesome happenings. I took the text will me in case I missed anything, but my friends followed it perfectly well without a text. There’s no subplot, which makes it so much easier, and the plot is a simple one about revenge. I think it would make a hopeless study text but it is a very good staging text.

The production was great fun. There was incense, moving stands, music, clamour and death rattles, masks, ironic laughter, blood, and the pace was fast: it was really good entertainment.

So glad I organised it and took my friends Debbie and Katherine, as it was just a lovely night out for us all, though we got the last train home from Waterloo which made it a very late night; I’m on extra-strong coffee this morning.

Everybody should pick their production carefully and go. I went to one that had excellent reviews, and I got the best seats in the house. Be warned: the wooden benches are hard and there are no backs to them.

and I’m very excited about this one.

to the Globe with their schools. Stan said: “Why do you want to go to the Globe theatre? It’s rubbish! It’s like sitting in a giant potty!”

If you see the shape of the Globe you see what he means.

A question about this goal:
What is Coriolanus like to watch, what is it about? What is Titus Andronicus like to watch? What is the Comedy of Errors like to watch?  — 2 years ago
There are 4 plays on  — 2 years ago

this summer. Coriolanus opens first, with Jonathan Cake (v handsome actor). Then Titus Andronicus with Douglas Hodge (great actor but bloody play, ie, violent). Then Antony and Cleopatra with Frances Barber. Great play but I can’t bear the way she speaks. Then the Comedy of Errors (late July).

If anybody can advise me on the three plays I don’t know (I know Antony and Cleopatra) I’d be very grateful.
