Went through the largest t-shirt stash today. I know I’m missing a fairish number, so I’ll check the loft tomorrow. How did I acquire so MANY shirts through the years? More to the point, when, as a culture, did we start commemorating life’s milestones in jersey?
I hope to get at least some of these trimmed and fused this weekend. This will make the pile less unwieldly and preliminary layout a much simpler task.

Some of the quilts I plan to make are T-shirt quilts. Went down the street to Rosie’s Calico Cupboard (amazing store, that!) to look for fusible interfacing. Fusible interfacing is used to stabilize the stretch in the jersey the shirts are made from, making it much easier to work with and compatible with woven (rather than knit) fabrics. Found exactly the kind I wanted, so I’m now in a good position to start the basic cutting of the t-shirts.
Spent a little time working on one of the other quilt ideas I’ve been toying with – an album quilt using different blocks to represent each state. (For those not familiar with quilting patterns, many of the block patterns are named after states or locations, e.g. Ohio Schoolhouse or Hayes Corner.) Ideally, I’d like to use traditional blocks, preferably as many 19th century patterns as possible – this is going to take a fair bit of research. This is also a thought I’ve had for a friendship quilt theme: Have each quilter make a block representing their home/birth state. Hmmm…
