1. Spend more time sewing than thinking about it! Ideally I should be creating at the VERY LEAST 4 things to sell each week. A more ambitious goal: 14 things a week. 2 for each day. Expanding inventory is my most important goal.
2. Learn how to make new types of products, starting with different styles of bags (laptop, messenger, duffle, cosmetic, wallets, wristlets, hobo, etc)
3. Take better pictures. Maybe have someone model my wares.
4. Space out my etsy posts. If I’m making 4 things a week, post 1 thing every other day.
5. Become a REAL business. Register my business name, get an EIN and permit to collect sales tax. Not only will this help me to think of what I’m doing as a legitimate business….but I’ll be able to cut my costs / increase profits by buying wholesale.
6. Advertise locally through Craigslist.
7. Enlist the help of friends…facebook promotion. Give friends/family business cards to distribute when they see fit.
8. Create a website and/or facebook page
9. Craft shows, farmer’s markets, flea markets.
10. Consignment.
11. Be active in the online craft community. Post / comment on message boards, blogs…be active on etsy, craftster
12. Set up a mailing list
13. BE MORE CONFIDENT
14. When I go to community college in the fall, take classes related to what I want to.
15. Take classes through Joann fabrics. If they ever offer a serger class in my area, jump on that.
16. In auctions / online marketplace, work on my titles, descriptions, call-to-action
17. Continue to use adwords…get better at it.
18. Maybe advertise through craft related websites / blogs.
19. BRANDING: create a logo, banner, business card that really reflects what I’m doing…and have them all be complimentary / match.
20. Get brand tag.
ALSO:
*Get other things out of the way. One of my biggest obstacles is clutter. Having clutter makes it difficult to stay organized and keep a clean house. Since I’m working from home, a clean and organized environment is essential.
*Create and stick to a workable schedule. A time for cleaning and yardwork, a time for exercise, a time for CREATING, a time for promoting. A time for meditation. A time for leisure. Etc Etc…Put my entire focus on the task at hand and nothing else during it’s time block.
*Another obstacle is my health. Chronic stress related fatigue. I need to take more time to nurture myself.
