Best Motivational Speaker in the Philippines

This morning, I visited a site of someone who claims to be the best motivational speaker in the Philippines. He is also a best selling author. This is not the first time that I have heard of this so-called best motivational speaker. One client, an American, shared with me this motivational speaker’s book. My client wanted to know my opinion of the book.

I did not have to read the whole book. Although the book was supposed to be about an inspiring woman, I felt that it was actually all about the author. The words I-am-the-best-motivational-speaker-in-the-Philippines is nowhere in the book. But the tone says it all. My client said that the guy was all hot air.

Opinions can be totally wrong. And my first impression is simply what it is- an impression. But there is a lesson which I want to share with you today.

Have you dated someone who knows only one topic. Nothing but himself? When I visited the website of this motivational speaker, I felt like I was dating someone who talks only about himself until we parted ways.

A fellow trainer said that Anthony Robbins is so full of himself. That is my friend’s opinion. But I must say that I did not felt that in his website, or even in his books. Tonny Robbins is a motivational speaker not because he is a very good public speaker. He is a motivational speaker because he moves people. You may not like him, but his talk is not really about himself. It is about you, your problem, and the solutions available to you. Not with this guy. His website is all about himself and how great he is.

The other week someone told me that I should use the title “motivational speaker” instead of using the title “inspirational speaker”. Frankly, I am not comfortable using any of these titles. For me these titles are just labels. And labels will not define me or even the things that I do. But inspirational is closer to what I think about what I do. The title is not really for myself. The title is for people who are looking for an inspirational speaker in the Philippines. When it comes to Google, tags or labels help.

I know many motivational and inspirational speakers in the Philippines. One is the father of my former student Hanna. The father’s name is Francis Kong. He is motivational. He is inspirational. He equips people by providing them real life examples and easy to dig principles. He motivates leaders by addressing their needs. Although he shares his experiences, he does not really talk about himself. He talks about his audience and he connects with his audience through his stories. I do not have a ready criteria for the best motivational speaker. But I believe that when it comes to content and delivery, he is the better speaker. But he did not claim to be the best motivational speaker in the Philippines. And that is one trait of a motivational speaker.

Should the number of people listening to the speaker be the basis? Bo Sanchez can easily become the best motivational speaker in the Philippines. Or maybe Mike Velarde or Eddie Villanueva.

My favorite is Onofre Pagsanjan. He makes you laugh. He makes you cry. He makes you fly. All within thirty minutes of talk. But he is humble. I don’t think that he will make that claim of being the best motivational speaker in the Philippines.

This guy must see my mentor Vic Santiago. That guy motivates everyone who comes his way. That includes his driver, his neighbor, and even his children. He motivated them to aim for managerial positions when they applied for their first job. Some people will not think that was a good advice from a parent. It is simply unrealistic. But all of his children applied and became managers when they got their first jobs. All were hired by multi-national companies. Even Toastmasters who have heard the best inspirational speakers in the world cannot not listen to him when he speaks.

But I will not say that he is the best motivational speaker in the Philippines. I know Vic Santiago. He will not make that claim. He will say that he is simply making the most of the talents given to him. This is the same guy who told me that I should not stop until good becomes better, and better becomes good.

Obama is a motivational speaker. Napoleon is a motivational speaker. Hitler is a motivational speaker. St. Paul is a motivational speaker. They make people act.

My seminars is all about making people apply (read: act on) the tools and techniques, practices and principles, and skills that they have learned during the seminars. So, people may say that I am an excellent trainer, a very effective motivational speaker, and admirable person. Those are very flattering observations. But I will not claim to be the best motivational speaker in the Philippines. That title may belong to you, to your father, to your sister, or to a stranger who have just motivated you to make the most of your talents and skills. That guy move you that now nobody can stop you anymore.

When someone tells you that he is the best motivational speaker, I suggest that you think twice. The moment one believes that he is the best is his worst moment. He does not need you. For that person, all of us are simply aiming for the second best. He will not be able to move us to reach our highest for to himself he has already occupied that place.

But let me claim what I feel about myself. I am a motivated speaker. I am an inspired trainer. I am a friend who cares. I am learning everyday. I get motivated by the people I meet. The people who attended my workshops give me education that I cannot get in a graduate school. I am motivational speaker because people in my seminars motivate me. Motivational speaking is not about the speaker. Or the speech. It is about people. It is about you, you, you, and me. It is not just a date. It is a communion.

Inspiring People

I changed the title of this goal. I thought that aspiring and inspiring are simply about people. It is about inspiring people.

Inspiring People. These two words are becoming even more powerful to me. These two words may describe what you do to people—that you are inspiring them.

And it may also refer to people who inspires us. Inspiring people is about those who inspire and those who are inspired.

This realization inspired me to change even the title of my website (http://jefmenguin.com) to something that truly represents what I want to do. INSPIRING PEOPLE: dream more, learn more, do more, and become more.

Happy New Year everyone.

Moving Up

How to move Up, UP, Up in a down, down, down world.

This will be the subject of my next squidoo lens. I will start writing some of my ideas today. I thank God because I have a life to celebrate the things that I want to do. Inspiring people is one of them. I hope we can inspire all. I hope you can join me.

Jef

Aspire and Inspire ezine

My next ezine will be entitled Aspire & Inspire. It will show people what they can do to enlarge their vision, mission, values, and roles in life. We can always aspire for great things.

And we can always inspire other people to do great things. I have no doubt about this. We can really make things happen. We simply need to start doing it now.

Dare to Dream Bigger Dreams

Dare to dream dreams. Do not be afraid. Do not deny yourself that opportunity to change your life and make a difference in the lives of people simply because you fear failure. The real failures in life are those who dare not dream. The real failures in life regret not those which they did, but those which they did not attempt to do.

You can reach the sky. You can make your stairway to heaven. Close your eyes and you will see. Listen to silence, hear the whispers of your heart. And you will understand that which you do not hear, that which you do not see, that which you do not feel, that which you do not taste.

I heard people say that I boasted too much about my dreams. I described things which were impossible to do. Some of them refused to listen, understand, and follow. Until someone appeared and show why dreamweaving is not a bad thing at all. So, I listened to those who say that “it can’t be done” because I respected them. But I listen more to my heart. When my heart says it can be done, then it must be done. Something is impossible until someone makes it possible. Something us unreachable until someone reach it. Mount Everest is not simply there. Hundreds, I do not know the exact number, may be thousands have already said, “I am here”.

I am here now. Not yet that high. Not yet that significant for those who has achieved so much in life. But who cares. For those who did not move because they feared failures, I am miles and miles away. I have not yet reached the top of mountain, but certainly, I am getting there. I am have not yet finished my song, but I intend to finish it sweet and strong…

This is my story. And I like to know that someone have tried to show my the difference between possible is impossible are two letters: I and M. Impossible means I’m possible. I am possible. I am possible. I am possible.

I can be the best that I can be. I can be the best that I am. I am the best Jef Menguin that will be ever lived.

There are so many Albert Einteins in the world. And maybe there are many Jef Menguins too. But this Jef Menguin in this corner will continue to aspire and inspire.

What about you? What do you aspire for? Whom do you want to inspire?
