I described this goal as “practice optimism” rather than “be optimistic” or “stay optimistic” because I wanted to remind myself that this is a process. Being optimistic isn’t something that comes naturally to me, I need to work at it and learn to frame my thoughts differently. Some days of course it’s a lot harder than others. And other days I feel like I’m making progress – today is one of those days. After an event that would have been discouraging on other days, I reminded myself of the positive side of it. This won’t be the last or only chance for this, there will be other chances and one of them will work out.

Some days I come up with five things quite easily, other days – when I have more need to reflect on even two or three – I am not as successful. I’m pleased that I’ve made some progress on this and after the first few times it comes more easily. There are more things than I would have thought for which to be grateful.
