Over 400 now…pretty easy to get back into the swing of it. Also formatting is up to 53, not a huge gain but moving along anyway. :) DP satisfies the nit-picker in me.

I haven’t had time to work in DP for almost a year. When I last worked it, I had a total of 388 pages proofed. I had also qualified to move on to formatting and had 47 pages formatted. For most of my goals, I like to set a timeframe for completion, but I’ve removed the timeframe for this one. I’ll get to 1000 eventually but my life changed significantly this year so I need to be realistic about goals that don’t pay the bills. I thoroughly enjoy DP proofing and expect to have some time in 2010 to get back to it.
Next goal is 300, at which point I can move up a level and so some different proofing. I’m really enjoying. My average is currently 8 pages a day. Some projects are harder than others but the topics are all over the board and I find that fascinating!
If typos and punctuation errors make you crazy when you read, you might be the perfect candidate for DP!
Distributed Proofreaders is a volunteer-run site that takes full advantage of the economies of scale. Volunteers proof-read one page at a time of public domain materials that are being converted from paper to electronic media. Because there are literally thousands of volunteers, these old books that would have NEVER been available in electronic forms are converted at a pretty good pace and become widely accessible for download through Project Gutenberg as free eBooks.

Go check out DP and become a volunteer! I’m currently at 171 pages. At 300 pages I can choose to move up to the next level of proofreading. The more you proof, you can progress through levels of proofreader and eventually to formatter if you choose.

I’m not professionally affiliated; I’m just a volunteer who has really enjoyed doing this.
