So, I decided to get serious about this goal, and I may even make it into a challenge (to stretch each day for three weeks, say). I bought Stretching for Dummies, which I’ve found both informative and inspiring. Because I like to undertake things methodically (read: stall and dawdle as much as I can), I’m happy to report that I’ve developed a stretching routine that should take me less than 15 minutes each day and will help me start building the habit.

So, I stretched every day for a week … then slacked off for a week because, well, that’s what we do when we get bored with something or don’t feel like we’re getting results. Well, subtle as they may have been, I did get results from stretching every day … less pain in my hips and knees, more flexibility, longer strides when walking. I’m back on the stretching plan starting today.
I know that I’ve let my body suffer as I’ve been mourning my mother’s death, and I realize that I have to discipline myself when it comes to getting regular daily exercise, even if it’s just a half hour of simple stretches to regain my flexibility. Today is day three … and counting.
