Every Sunday I check the PostSecret website to read other people’s secrets. Words from the very deepest depths of their heart that they’ve never shared with anyone. But they’re sharing them with me, a complete stranger, and others all over the world. In case you’ve never heard of PostSecret, I’ll give you some background. Exactly two years ago today, Frank Warren started this website. Before January 1, 2005, Frank passed out thousands of postcards, everywhere he went. On them were the instructions of his project: You are invited to anonymously contribute your secrets to PostSecret. Each secret can be a regret, hope, funny experience, unseen kindness, fantasy, belief, fear, betrayal, erotic desire, feeling, confession, or childhood humiliation. Reveal anything – as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before.
Create your own 4-by-6-inch postcards out of any mailable material. But please only put one secret on a card. If you want to share two or more secrets, use multiple postcards. (Please do not e-mail your secret.)
Please put your complete secret and image on one side of the postcard.
Tips:
Be brief – the fewer words used the better.
Be legible – use big, clear and bold lettering.
Be creative – let the postcard be your canvas.
Years later, the site continues and Frank is known as the most trusted man in America. I trust him more than anyone, myself. That’s why I’d like to meet him. I’d like to meet the man who holds some of my darkest secrets, secrets I’ve never told anyone. If you’re a Sunday Secret reader, awesome. Maybe we could talk sometime. Share secrets. Thoughts. Whatever. If you’re not, check out the site. www.postsecret.com Definitely worth it.
