Tumblr has a lot of customizable templates for your blogging enjoyment. Also, if you are unsure what to write, you can “reblog” other people’s entries or pictures or “finds” without having a lot of pressure to generate original material. This is a good intermediate step before actually generating original material.
I did start a tumblr blog, and I plan to post articles of interest and subscribe to other people’s blogs. I am reluctant to put too much original material out there on the Internet. One of my publishing friends has warned me that I should not put my poetry out on the Internet since that is technically considered “publishing” and could limit future access to contests or contracts for previously unpublished work.
Since one of my goals is publishing a chapbook and developing the “business” side of poetry more, I am heeding her advice. A general tumblr blog it shall be. If it starts sucking up time, though, I am going to limit my access to that blog. This is not supposed to be a replacement for facebook detox!
