my resume to all sorts of places. Semi actively. Like…it would be nice if someone called me back, but I’m ok for now if no one does.
Yesterday, I got two voicemails from people who’d like to interview me.

...frustrating…
A few entries earlier, I mentioned that working at a bar is like working on another planet. It really is..
The job market is not all that great. I feel like a lot of employers are very aware of this, and therefore feel that YOU, as the EMPLOYEE, must bend over backwards and have magic superpowers to keep your job. And that you should feel LUCKY that you have this job and be willing to take whatever shit comes at you because, hey, you have a job.
Employers, this is not a cool mindset.
Ok, I love my bartending job. I hate that the managers are now going day by day with the scheduling. Why is it ok to text me at 7pm to ask if I can be there by 9? No, of course I can’t be there by 9. It takes me an hour to get there and an hour to get ready. I hadn’t eaten yet and Bill was over without his car.
Luckily, I still have my other job.
sigh
I am about to call it quits with both of these fun jobs, and look for a real, regular, normal 9-5. The other job isn’t doing anything like this and is still wonderful, but it’s part-time in the middle of the day. There’s no way I could work full time and keep that job.
Oh this hunt is never ending…
I have a schedule in front of me right now for both my new jobs. This is done and I am happy.
I’m still looking for yet another additional part time job, but not as actively. Yea, it would be nice, but I can certainly live (and be comfortable!) without one.
:D
I had no drive to go to this interview, so I blew it off. No one was surprised because they all thought it was a stupid job anyway. Go figure.
Friday I have a second interview for job #3. Fret not my friends, all three jobs combined don’t quite equal 40 hours…possibly not even 30…
The job is kinda lame..it’s at a call center..but the pay is decent. I don’t see it lasting long. But hey, something temporary is ok.
This place was starting to make me a little crazy.
Working for a bar or a club is like working on a different planet. Things just don’t work like they do at other jobs. Every type of job has their own vibe…I get that…but bars and nightclubs have their own system that just wouldn’t work anywhere else.
That being said, I was disappointed, not surprised, when I was only being put on the schedule one day a week after being hired, not getting any feedback, not getting phone calls returned, and generally not knowing what the hell was going on here.
Obviously I had to talk to the owner, but he can be elusive, so I had to wait for my next shift.
Yesterday I get to work and see the bartender training another girl. That felt like a slap in the face. There aren’t enough hours for me, but there are for someone else? Wtf.
Finally, at the end of the night I was able to talk to the owner. I asked him what was going on and told him that I need to know what my definite hours are, if I’m doing ok here, or if I should start looking for a job somewhere else.
He told me that one of his bartenders quit, and rather than hiring one new bartender to cover three shifts, he’d rather hire three new bartenders, all one shift each. I’m probably going to keep doing the night I’ve been doing, but he’ll give me an answer in two weeks after training the other new bartenders. And of course I’m doing fine. Should I find another job, he’d work around those hours.
Ok, cool.
Answers are nice.
Hooray!
I get a lab coat!
Hooray!
And I have to make up my mad scientist name XD
Perhaps Miss Quicksilver Mercury With An Atomic Number Of 80
Or Professor Electric
Dr Waffles?
Dr Bunsen!
I’m still on the lookout for yet another part time job. Both part time jobs combined are still not enough hours.
I have an interview for a job as a part-time after-school science teacher, because one part time job is not enough. I applied for this job a year ago, but had to turn it down when they offered it to me because of my availability. So I’m feeling pretty confident that they’ll still like me and offer me the job again :)
went well!
Hooray!
::throws confetti::
Now, let’s keep everything going well so the job is permanently mine. After two months, I’ll feel secure. That’s when I’ll check this off as DONE.
So I get an email from someone who received my resume and is interested in meeting me. Cool. We exchange emails, set up an interview time, and then when she gives me the address of the place, I realize what bar it is, and it is one of the states most well known bad ass awesome rock clubs that everyone in the scene and their mother wants to work for. And THEY contacted ME.
The interview was a success! Next week I start training, and the rest depends on that.
I’m very excited…and flattered that they even considered me…and I really hope this goes well.
