One day last year, I woke up with searing pain in my left eye. It was swollen shut and running like a faucet. When I could get it open, it burned so bad I dared not blink. Imagine someone stapled your eyelid shut to your eye. It felt like that.
I skipped school and managed to drive to the ER where they put UV eye drops in my eye (I had neon yellow snot for a day. It was awesome). They told me that my cornea was ripped and gave me a prescription for $80 eye-numbing drops. They said that normal mild abrasions take a day to heal, but mine was fucked up enough to need at least two weeks.
I’ve torn my cornea about ten times within the past year. Not to this degree; I know more or less how to prevent it from getting that bad again. Every morning I blindly put in eye drops. If I open my eyes before letting them sink in, my eye sticks to my eyelid and it rips.
A month after the first tear, an eye dr told me my eyes were fine, confirming my long held beliefs that most drs are idiots and just want your money.
My eyes are not healthy and I don’t know how to get them back in shape. I keep trying different eye drops, but none of them seem to be any better than the other. I got rid of all of my old make up and a good portion of stuff that didn’t look too healthy. Definitely all the glitter. I bought Physician’s Formula and Almay and Neutrogena, hoping that they’d be better for my eyes. I stopped using eyeliner and opted for gentler eyeshadow.
Even though my eye makeup remover was one of those safe ophthalmologist recommended types, it still burned. Tonight, I had the idea to use my favorite multi-use magic elixir of coconut oil, jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil as a makeup remover. It didn’t burn and was quite soothing! Dr. Google said that all three were safe to use around the eyes and even in them, but not everything on the internet is trustworthy.. I’ll do some more research before I make a routine out of it. I imagine that it’s safer than all of the chemicals that are in commercial makeup removers..
