make my own clothes

I went for my fashion school entry test, and they couldn’t find my name on the list. I didn’t have my VTAC number with me, they wouldn’t let me do the test, and the admin lady got really, really stroppy with me, and then the admissions officer let me do the test, and then gave me the silent treatment and took all my test papers off me after realising that I wasn’t on the list. It was either get into fashion school, and pursue that for four years, or get stuck into my music (I’m a singer-songwriter) and really make a go of it. After I left the test building and went out into the street, the sun came out and it was really nice all day. And I felt really calm, like I knew what to do – I didn’t feel upset or worried about what had happened. A sign if ever there was one. And I’ve got a gig next week. I’m a bit stunned. Still making my own clothes, but I’ve got a feeling my career will be in music…

I’ve applied to fashion school! Went to a career discovery week just this week gone, and learnt about what studying fashion really is all about. You have free-rein with your creativity, get to work with different concepts and design briefs, make 3D and 2D objects, paint, sketch, pastels, collage…in short I had an amazing week, and wished it could’ve gone for two weeks. But I’ve come out of it a seriously good artist, with that many ideas for different things, and a completely different and inspired view of what being a designer is really about. And a folio to prepare for the interview. Am taking a whole month retreat away from everything to prepare it. This is gonna be fun…
