Unfortunately, my grandmother, who was the person who first taught me the very basics of knitting, can no longer teach me due to arthritis in her hands and Alzheimer’s having stripped her of remembering how, so I’m now trying to find myself a new teacher. Sometimes I can pick up on things from books and websites (for instance I taught myself to embroider quite well using those resources), but knitting has never wanted to click in my mind so I need someone there explaining it. Fortunately, re-enactors are notorious for having odd hobbies, so during down time this summer I should be able to find someone with the necessary know-how and supplies and make socks or something. Or mittens, since I always need new mittens and store-bought ones generally don’t fit my tiny hands.
